I know there are lots of similar thread on this forum and I have read them!
I have a similar problem, so here goes.
I have a multipla 1.9jtd on a 54 plate. Just recorded over 85k miles.
I blanked off the EGR about 3000 miles ago as it was the easiest thing to do at the time to get the car running ok again. Never had a problem with it since then and as I don't have fingers like ET I decided to leave it like that.
Last month the alternator started to fail and whilst at the garage I realised that the timing belt was well over due so had them both replaced.
Since the work the engine management light has been permanently on with the horrible beep along with 'contact garage'...aaarrrggggg! It was never a problem prior to this. I took it back and they plugged it in but all the options would cost a lot of money and it may not even resolve the problem. Having just spent £500 on the previous work I really don't want to be shelling out more money in the knowledge that it may not work.
The car starts fine. In neutral it will rev ok. However once there is a load on the engine it will not pass 3000 rpm. However if I turn the engine off and restart it will run perfectly for a couple of minute ie rev normally then return to max of 3000rpm.
My questions are; Do people on the forum think this may be a simple fix?
Could the garage have disturbed or not reconnected something during previous work? Is the fault light just a coincidence that happened to come on at the same time as the work?
I bow down to the font of knowledge that is the forum and hopefully await some guidance.
Many thanks,
John.
p.s. I love my multi apart from that annoying beep and lack of revs!
