Hi everyone, we recently bought a cheap Stilo 2005, 1.4 16v that had known intermittent instrument panel problems. My hope was that I could swap out the dash for a replacement and all would be well, but now I'm not sure if it is the dash or ECU or something else?
The problems with the instrument panel are:
No dials working, no warning lights except the airbag check lights which come on for the initial ignition check and go off after a few seconds, and lastly the dash itself does not illuminate?
Yesterday the ABS, low fuel orange light and both indicator lights came on and would not go off, even after removing the key (I had to disconnect the battery). We have also had various lights come on and go off after each turn of the ignition.
I have read through the forums and tried the following:
Cleaned all earth terminals to battery, ECU, body earth?
Swapped out fuses F37 and F53.
Cleaned and checked the fuses on the positive terminal.
Taken out instrument panel and checked connecting block at the back.
Sprayed contact spray on the connection blocks under the fuse box and on top of ECU.
Tried 2 other car batteries (40Ah and a brand new 60 Ah )
What I have noticed is there is a sort of squeaking noise from the ECU (like a piezo speaker type of sqwee?)when you initially turn the ignition key, and if I move the connector block to the ECU the squeak happens again.
Sorry to keep going on here but I am trying to put as much info as I can think of.
My predicament is do I need to replace/remap/repair the ECU or instrument panel? if I need to replace then does the instrument panel need to be remapped and does the ECU need to be reprogrammed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
