Hi all,
I know there's been lots of threads on here about heaters and riostats packing up and I have read them but I am totally confused with this one.
I have added some photos because the previous owner has cut wires and I cant see what went where.
Basically they have cut the feed to the red wire on the riostat and placed a relay and switch inline, I guess because the fan was always on!
Currently the feed to this "NEW" relay is dead I have traced it back to the relay and across to fuses 5 and 15. Fuse 15 is live and if I bridge the relay I get 12v to the "NEW" relay and the riostat red wire.
The relay is fine I have placed 12v across that and it actuates.
Fuse 5 doesn't have a 12v feed, I think it was .5 or something very low so I guess there is an issue in the feed to that fuse which means the relay doesn't trip and the 12v doesn't reach the switch.
If I supply a feed from else where to the switch the new relay trips and feeds 12v down to the riostat if I probe the two connectors on the fan "red and black" I can see 12v but the fan doesn't turn.
If I take the alternate 12v supply and go directly to the fan "red and black" terminals the fan spins.
I can see the resistance change on the green wire at the riostat so the slide on the dash is operating correctly
The thing I don't understand is why does the 12v through the riostat not turn the fan!
I have bought a new riostat from ebay but it comes with no wires to connect to the fan.
Can anyone tell from the pictures whats what. I have a white wire cut at the point it leaves the loom, not even in use now. I have two other white wires of the same size to the new relay. The white wire from the relay changes in the large connector block to a red wire that goes with the brown and green wires to the riostat.
Also I downloaded the manual from the download section, why do the wiring diagrams not show wire colours or am i missing that information?
Sorry for the long thread I have been working on this for a few nights and need to put the dash back in.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
Vince
