Technical 2.2 JTD cutting out

My car is a 2003 2.2 jtd Prestigio. About a week ago the engine turned over but would not start with the messages ESP/ASR system faulty and Electronic anti-theft system faulty. Caned the battery a bit so charged it overnight and eventually got the car started. Since then the engine randomly cuts out briefly and carries on, sometimes cuts out all together but restarts after about 20 seconds. The same messages are displayed along with the engine management light. Checked the engine bay fuse box and all appears dry and clean. Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

Get the battery checked, this cold weather usually sorts out dud batteries, I believe that message appears sometimes when the charge is low, battery possibly on way out, especially when, after a charge, all appears to be OK again for a while.

Full marks to Chris of "HiQ" Sutton Road, Plymouth who found the frayed wire that was causing the problem. It was in the part of the wiring loom that runs from the side of the engine fuse box to the front of the engine.
