i posted a couple of times in past regarding my Ducato 2.8 JDT cutting out occasionally when idling. Bit of a pain round town at junctions and roundabouts.
Just driven from Alicante (where i live) to Yorkshire and back, and the problem seems to be far worse when the engine is cold. Once warmed up it idles fine. Also it drives ok.
It seem to be better if i use premium grade fuel.
No engine management lights and no fault codes showing.
Anyone got any ideas as to what the problem could be
Thanks

It sounds like the timing belt needs replacing, we've had two like this that were second generation pre 2002 non HDI. The pump timing moves as the belt gets older, being such a long belt it only needs to stretch a small amount.
You can test it by taking the covers off and see if there is any excessive play in the belt.

I have feeling that you have the iveco jtd/hdi engine.
Fuel filter.
Air leaks into fuel filter housing.
If it has an electric in tank pump check it is working, you should be able to hear it run for a few seconds when key turned to warning lights on position.
Put your ear near tank and ask someone else to turn key to on position.
Check fuse to this electric pump.
Air filter.
