this could be related to my other post about cold starting difficulties...

one of the many things powered by the belt on my 2l jtd scudo engine makes a high-ish tone which sounds very much like a 2CV.
tone varies with revs and is always there. i'm guessing one of the many pumps is on it's way out, or perhaps it's just one of the pulleys?
i've heard other jtds with this noise. Is it a common problem? well known?

it's been this way since i got it and has done about 20 000 miles that way, so iguess it's not a major problem, but i would like to solve it as it niggles at me.

best way is to remove the belt that drives the alternator, and run briefly without it, , to see if noise is gone,

most other parts are driven by cambelt.., not worth disturbing unless you want a bill for belt, water pump, tensioner, etc,

think it's the same belt that drives alternator, power steering pump, waterpump and aircon compressor. not a good idea to run without the belt then?

check, but with FIAT waterpump is normally from cambelt..,
