If its working for you Jay then (y) but please dont abuse the wood you could go blind ;)

I'm really impressed by the quality of the posts here - lots of useful information!

stilojay, even though the wires you highlighted may not be the ones you thought, I think the important point is that you drew this troublesome connector trio to the attention of people like myself. I personally agree with NumanR and T14086 (what a name!), since airbag connectors have to be a unique colour (yellow or orange). Deckchair5 provided even more insight (posts like that take ages to write, y'know ;)) and so it is that I think we can all agree on the most likely causes of the annoying airbag warnings!

I have had similar elusive problems with crimped connectors in the past (low-voltage, low-current systems) and I know how I like to fix them; remove each pin one-by-one and solder the wire to the pin... not sure if this is possible with the airbag-type connector.

I usually hang out in the Uno forum - but now that I own a Stilo, I plan to spend a lot more time here :)

Thanks,
-Alex

off topic but is the blank car in your sig an escort? :eek:

I don't know Fiat systems all that well but if that was a PSA or VAG car then the plug to which stilojay has had replaced is the seat belt plug , which is indeed linked to the airbag system ie the seat belt detonator! I'm sure if you were to code read the fault with that white plug disconnected it would read faulty seat belt pretensioner or maybe cartridge fault , thus proving that stilojays fault was this white plug and not the side airbag plug which tends to run completely seperate to the normal airbags , well at least on all the makes i work on any way but then it is a Fiat.:)

I'm just looking to expand my knowledge really but on my car if you trigger an airbag fault, and resolve it...the warning remains and is dealer resetable only. I take it these cars (where the airbag runs from the main ecu) will just "recover" if the fault is resolved??

OT. @ T14086 Is there a guide for how to read the FIAT schematics. I can follow the basics, i have a degree in electronics, but what i pressume is fiat or automotive specific, is a bit confusing. I also understand the component codes.

The random (seemingly) letters on the wire connections ie. CV, A, RL, AB. What are they, colour codes??

lso the number on pins of components etc. What are they? I thought pin numbers, but items like relays have 50, 87, etc on them :S

kritip - yes, most likely a colour code with the colours in Italian. Azzurro = Blue. Viola = Violet. Rosso = Red. L = light blue... I can't remember was C is. (orange?)

The 50, 87 etc. are pin numbers according to a DIN standard. You should find matching numbers on the components themselves.

stilosporting - the 'blank' car in my signature is the outline of my now-gone Alfa Romeo 164 - see link below - I'm not sure how its Pininfarina profile was confusable with one of those slab-sided 'ordinary' Escorts ;)

I think that's the off-topic points cleared up (y)

A = light blue
B = white
C = orange
G = yellow
H = grey
L = blue
M = brown
N = black
R = red
S = pink
V = green
Z = violet

As said the nubers represent the (old) DIN system (15=switched live,30 battery live,85 & 86 relay windings etc) nowdays we use ISO...but being used to the older system I prefer DIN as do alot of people.

Decks thats quite a post, well done.

Dealers dont have the time to take all these photos, I have tried taking some pics with my box browny but when the pics came back from boots, they wouldnt go into the floppy drive slot (too big) and the cd drive door kept opening each time I "loaded" the snaps.

Thanks

Thanks. Haven't had any air bag warnings now since the cleaning so I believe I must have "hit the spot"(y)
I promise I'll report back here if ever the airbag warning light returns but considering it was going off every week before and now i don't cringe whenever i start the car waiting for it to go off then I'm very pleased:D

well done deckchair (y)

obviously airbag lights are not all due to just a faulty airbag or airgbag connection, but hey your problem was sorted by your repair.

my point, is that I have sorted MY (and maybe others Stilo owners similar problem) by what was done to my wiring.

comments such as "don't abuse the wood you could go blind" by some members are not really practical on a site that enjoys solutions from a wide range of problems.
