The check engine light came on, the manual lists solid or flashing. Solid was ok for a quick journey at lower speed, flashing was do not even drive. We were 10 minutes from home that night so risked the quick drive back.
During that journey the temperature gage didnt move which worried me as it's usually around 25% marker at least.
Next morning went to check the car over, doesn't even turn over.
Accessories & lights on fine.
Plenty of fuel in tank.
Anyone else had this issue?
Glad we're not needing the car for a few days.

That one is going to be very difficult to diagnose over the internet.

If it just goes dead when you turn the key to the start position then it could well be just a battery issue. Low batteries do wild things to modern electronics.

You can get your battery health checked at somewhere like halfords for little money if not free.

Failing that the obvious thing to do is get the fault codes from it - either laptop and cable, local friendly person who has or visit mechanic. Report back with those and see if it gives more of a clue.

As an aside - it sounds like your thermostat may be tired. The gauge should reach the half way point, indicating a running temperature of between 90 and 100 degrees. If it runs cooler than this for any prolonged period then that suggests it's not getting warm enough, i.e. the thermostat is sticking open and probably passed it's best.

Sounds like a dead battery....

That would have caused anything in the instruments to become unreliable (including the temperature gauge possibly).

On the other hand, a problem with the gauges might have drained the battery.. though this is less likely. Check the battery first... or just charge it up for 8 hours and see if it restores the car back to normal. If it fades again, there is obviously still a problem (battery itself or something draining it).
