120 JTD: Running fault cured when EGR unplugged.

Hi, I've got a Stilo Sporting 120 JTD. I had the odd engine warning light which would come on intermittently, this was followed last week by a total loss of power and the car stuttering as if there was a fuel flow problem or something.

I disconnected the MAP sensor which made it run smoothly but with no power at all, a mechanic had a brief look and said my turbo actuator may be sticking. I had a quick look at this and it seemed to move freely enough.

Anyway, the real reason for my post... I disconnected the plug from the EGR valve and other than the expected warning light the car now runs fine with bags of power etc, I did take the EGR valve off to check it and give it a bit of a clean, but I didn't really have anything suitable to clean it, so it was really just a quick clear out and check it was moving ok, but the no power/juddering fault came back once I reconnected the plug.

I've left the plug off for the time being and I was just wondering if I'll be ok driving it for a while with the EGR unplugged? Or is it likely to cause me problems down the line?

Thanks, and sorry for the overly long post to get to a simple question!

Yeah that was the problem, I had the same/similar thing before and that was the boost solenoid. This time it was more like a limp mode, but stuttering as if fuel flow or something. I'm thinking it's egr as I've tried unplugging all of them and it's the EGR being unplugged which cures the problem. Thanks.
