Hiya

My Elderly Neighbour had bought a 53 plate Fiat Stilo

Odd thing, the key fob had the battery in upside down so i replaced the battery and now it lights up etc but no central locking working on car with it.

So is there a sequence to resync the key with the car (As with most cars)

Also when he opens the drivers side door with the key the front windows wind down???

As far as I understand syncing the key with the car requires the alarm code, all keys to be present, some specialist software (can't remember if MultiECUScan can do this) and the right level diagnostic cable - ELM I think. It's a process that programs the alarm and/or body computer to accept the signal coming from the key. The process erases all previous keys and programs a new set, hence all keys needing to be present.

because it operates the alarm too it's not a simple process of just syncing the key. If the car was programmed to accept the key then it'd work with new battery.

The windows opening will be a global open / close issue. They operate on the remote too, if it worked. It tends to be a press and hold function, so chances are he is keeping the key turned in the lock too long or turning the key further than he needs to which is triggering the global open. It should work in reverse when locking for global close.

I don't know the Stilo well, but remote resyncing, as opposed to programming new keys does NOT require CODE or software. It's only the remote that is out of sync not the imobiliser. Check the owners manual (its availble on-line) but typically it will be some kind of ignition on / off button pressing sequence. It is also possible that the remote transmitter has been damaged. The LED coming on is not 100% assurance it is working OK.

As Artermis pointed out you do require the appropriate cables and registered version of multiscan software or fiat dealer, plus the 5 digit electronic code for your car only available over the counter at fiat dealer, then using the correct software and cables is a short process of the car re-learning the central locking code for your remote, others and myself have completed this when setting up extra second hand remote fobs for the vehicle, the alarm code is a separate process and not required just for central locking set up as is this is done by the small glass transponder in the key fob...

windows going up or down with long press of the key fob is normal and part of the fob action.

yup, as above, you need multiecuscan to re programme the fob to the car.

Ive done it on mine, and as said, you have to have the code or it simply will not work. Cost me around £40-50 from Fiat I believe because I didn't have mine, but I was then able to programme the fob to my car and its been perfect ever since.

I purchased multiscan software and the ELM kit from ebay which was only about £25 with all the different connectors etc, well worth it for a diyer like me but not so much for those who aren't :/

Hi,
Sorry to mislead, the others are correct you do need Mutiecuscan and the cars CODE.

Seems some Fiats are different. You learn something new everyday. If you are near Cambridge I have MES and can do it for you.

If the battery was in the wrong way round then it can kill these remotes. If you try to reprogram the remote and have no joy. Give me a shout and I'll dig out another circuit board for you.
