Hi all, I've got a problem with my 53 plate 1.6 Stilo. On the MOT it failed on a hole in the back box and high CO and Lambda readings HC was fine. I got it home and fitted a new back box, put some redex in it and filled up with fuel. I took it for a 20 minute run wuth high revs before the retest and the CO reading are much lower than before but still too high.

Fast Idle CO is 1.132 and 1.729, previous figures were 2.013 and 4,227.

Although the readings have improved it suggests that I have a failure. Pre Cat Lamda? All help appreciated.

clean oil..??

somebody may know if the new paint burning off may have an effect on the tailpipe readings,
however if you say the "lambda" readings are out.. then it suggests an emission control / or probe fault,
have you read and cleared any fault codes lately..??

Yes the oil is clean Charlie, about 4 months old. I read the codes today and it said O2 Sensor Heater Circuit (bank 1 Sensor 1).

I've just replaced the pre cat lambda after a long soak in plus gas. MOT tomorrow so fingers crossed :)

Ok the lambda was the problem, retested it yesterday and the emissions flew through and are now really low. 12 months ticket sorted :)
