First of all greetings to all, im new here but since i have a Fiat Stilo i guess i should come here :)

So im from Serbia, and i have a Fiat Stilo 1.9 MultiJet its 120 HP version, and year is 2005. I bought it seccond hand, 4 years ago, and since then it was runing fantasticly good, on buying it had only 48 000 km on counter. I have my reasons to beleive that the guy didnt cross me.

But now i have a problem. About 5 month ago i changed my fuel filter with a new one, from champion, i already used this one, and i plugged all the hoses everything put the water sensor, and engine runs. So ive been using my car as usually, and when about a 2 - 3 months later i started noticing that my car when i hit the throtle it goes normally but around 1800 RPM it has a small pause and after it it kick in full power. Until that moment it doesent have power. Im guessing turbine dont come on to push preasure in the engine.

On the other hand, i didnt noticed it before but now when i look back, since i replaced the fuel filter, i noticed a hissing sound on adding throtle. So as i accelerate i hear a hissing sound well from somewhere around my fuel filter.

Now i didnt had any time to change the filter, but in a day or so i will hoping that its just a bad filter nothing more. There are no any errors what so ever. And engine starts without the problem.

Yesterday another problem, on hitting the gas, there is smoke from behind, kind black. Now i know that is bad, like oil burning.

So please take it easy on me, is this something stupid or i have a very very bad engine and i should get rid of the car.

Thanks and all the best, oh and sorry for mistakes in typing, working all day long, not very rested :), and sorry for long text. :)

A shot in dark guess for diesel with power issue would be EGR valve is stuck and either a good clean or fitting of blanking plate may be worth investigating, as doubt it has been looked at since new, wear them disposable gloves if you decide to give it a clean or blank as it will be full of black soot.

Im a little bit too late for reply :)

But i just removed the EGR Valve, and the side thru which exhaust is flowing is clear, but the other side closer to the dolenoid was so filled with carbon, that the valve barely moved at all. Im guessing when engine heats up, and when the pressure was high enough, valve did opened somehow and worked, bit the it closes and so on. Its late now, i washed it in petrol and Carbon Cleaner and tomorow ill reassemble and test drive the car, i do hope it will work.

Thanks for the tip btw :)

As mhowse suggested, use a blanking plate with swirl hole and you will reduce this problem.

So i removed the EGR, i washed it completely, washed all pipes, declogged all ``holes`` to say :)

Reassembled the EGR and did a test drive. I think i have my old car back :) It works perfectly without any flaws. Ill leave the EGR working and i will do cleaning on regular basis every few years. Its not too big job, a little bit complicated but not too much.

Im just happy its easy to fix, not expensive since no parts are replaced, just a little bit of cleaning and washing hands afterwards :) My bad i didnt use any gloves, but guess what dishwasher cleans perfectly, you cant even smell it. Thank you very much for your assistance, i was starting to think worst case scenarios.

Again many thanks and all the best.
