Hi guys, just followed Argonaughts guide on glow plug checking. I had no problem checking the relay, and found 1 plug with no reading - the only problem is that my wiring is laid out different to the photo in Argonaughts guide- My wiring is as follows , from top( pin 1) yellow/green ( pin 2 ) yellow ( pin 3 ) red ( pin 4 ) blue. The red wire gave a zero reading Argonaughts picture shows pin 1 as yellow- pin 2 black - pin 3 green - pin 4 red

Can anyone confirm that my wiring shows that cylinder 2 has faulty plug ? I dont want to tell garage to replace wrong plug:confused:

According to the wiring diagrams, 8 valve and 16 valve engine do have different colour wiring to the glow plugs, as you've discovered. Unfortunately, the diagrams don't make it clear which terminal on the relay go to which glow plug. They show pins 1, 2, 3 and 4 going to glow plug A, B, C and D respectively.

Also, if you read through the whole of Argonaught's thread, several people have posted that their glow plugs were wired the opposite way to what he'd posted. With that in mind, it would be unreliable to say which of your plugs is faulty unless you tested them at the plug terminals rather that at the relay connector.

If you're getting the job done at a garage, I always think it's better to get the garage to diagnose what needs doing, rather than just telling them what to do.

I have had a 'Glow plug warning' on start up for about 3 years now. Bought 4 new plugs- Not them. Bought a new Relay - No not that. So now I have disconnected the relay and wired in a mechanical solenoid with a push on/release off button in the cabin.
