Can anyone help. I have tried and tried to get my elm cable to connect to my car but i cannot get it to connect. The message I keep getting is unreliable port setting or cable . please check...! I need to perform a proxy on my car but cannot do this until the connection is made. I have changed all the settings on the computer to as follows com 5 latency 1. I have matched this setting on multiscan but it just keeps coming up with the same result.

have you changed the baud rate on the USB port that is being used? I'll need to check, but I think it needs to be 9600 - I will fire up my laptop and see what I have it set to...

ok, gimmie 5 mins ive misplaced my power for the laptop, need to pop to the shed

ok, firstly, open Multiscan, bottom left click Settings.

Click INterfaces
Interface 1, INterface Type should be the ELM you have connected, in my case its an ELM327 1.3+ and below TEST select 38400. Untick High latency mode if it is ticked.

I need to go get my interface now to check the usb port settings...but try that first see if it helps.

ok, try this:

go into Control Panel on your laptop ( I dont know what OS you have but the methods are the same if you have Windows). Within control panel, go into System (if you cant see system, change the view top right "view by" small icons). In System, click Device Manager. Assuming your ELM has installed correctly, go into USB Serial Port(com*) COM* should be a number, COM1, 2, 3, 4 etc note which COM port it is. Click Port Settings and change Bits per second to 9600, Data Bits 8, Parity none, Stop Bits 1 flow control none. Click Advanced, most defaults are ok but under Miscellaneous Options untick everything EXCEPT Serial Enumerator and ok that window.

try that....

oh yeah, you also need to make sur eyou have the correct COM port selected.

refer back to my point of making a note of the com port within device manager. So you go into Settings in Mutiscan, INterfaces, and select the correct Serial POrt, which will be the USB com port. Click TEST to test it.

will do thanks.

Will plug it in tommorow when I get home from work . Getting dark now to do things in the car.
I will let you know how I get on .
Annoying thing is I have done one before 12 months ago and never had these issues.

Thanks for help

yeah I know what you mean, unfortunately system updates and differing OS's mean the settings are never the same by default, bit of tweaking sorts it out!

connected now but still cant do a proxy.
However did a dtc scan and it came up withese following codes
u1601 tx
u1700 ncm-nbc
u1701 ncm-nge
u1706 ncm- nfr
Any ideas as to what they mean?

Done a quick search and its the can network which is down. I put a multi function wheel in . I connected up to the can at the back of the radio.
Now could be a few reasons but guess its just a case of tracking it down. It does stand to reason though because the audio repeat on the dash from the radio has stopped too. Makes me wonder if the can network is fused? Or if a wire has come off at the back of the head unit. Gonna do some digging tomorow. Thanks for your help tho. Really appreciated.

I have now fitted my steering wheel and everything works fine(y). However I need to do a proxy but multiscan will not do it. It just keeps saying I have an unreliable connection detected. It does connect to the car though as I can read the fault codes. Any ideas anyone???

cant perform a proxy alignment

(y)Hi Guys .
I have fitted a multi function wheel to the car today and all is working fine. However the mileage is now flashing and I want to do a proxy to stop it. The multiscan software will read trouble codes from the car but it will not perform a proxy . Just keeps saying something about an unreliable connection. Any ideas??

Cannot connect to CAN !!!!HELP

Hi.
I cannot connect to the can Network on my car to perform a proxy alignment. The settings on my pc and cables are correct as i have tried them on our Panda and it connects no problem.
Is there something that could have come loose on the port or a fuse type thing that is stopping a connection to the network. Everything in the car is working fine and all displays are good. Just the mileage is flashing and needs a proxy doing to correct this.

Any help would be appreciated.(y)
