Hi all,

I don't write English very well, but with the help of translators I hope I can explain my problem.

I am quite sad about my Stilo.
I Bought the car about a month because my daughter was born and I need a car 5 doors.
What happens is that a week ago, the car started to fail with the engine cold and gave error code P0301 (cylinder 1 failure). Actually while the engine is cold shakes a lot (like a cylinder failure), but as soon as it warms the engine Gets the work well and without irregularities in idling. As soon as the engine is cold, the same happens again.
This car is heavy, but still I think it should have a better develop, I think that even if stay regular when it's hot, the engine don't develops what should develop.

Best regards

Ps: New spark plugs and coils, throttle body and MAP sensor were cleaned.

Hi hfturbo,

the first thing i would check is that the spark plugs and coil packs are clean and free from moisture. both at the spark plug end and at the electrical plug end. maybe spray a little WD40 or GT85 in the coil pack just to make sure.

i know you have said that both the spark plugs and coil packs are new but the following is still worth attempting.

swap the coil packs over to different cylinders and see if the fault follows. this would confirm or deny a coil pack issue.

swap the spark plugs over to different cylinders, this would confirm or deny a spark plug issue.

lastly if you swap both the coil pack and spark plug and the fault remains on cylinder 1 then it could be a wiring issue from the ECU to the coil pack. visually check the wiring as best as you can for any signs of damage or corrosion.

hope this helps

Hi Rich,

Have I changed the spark plugs and coils and the error remained in the cylinder 1.

When I made the switch I have checked the details that you have indicated, thanks anyway.

I think only 3 remaining faults, ECU, cylinder 1 injector or low compression in cylinder 1.

Of the three, I preferred it that clogged injector.

Strange is the engine after 2/3 minutes runs normal, and if I start to drive, gets normal in less time.

Today in two cold starts, only one of the times trembled as not heated, the second time did not tremble.

im pretty certain P0301 relates solely to the electrical circuit for the cyl.1 spark plug. if it was injector i think it would throw a different fault.

Hi Richy,

I think I have a head gasket, because when the fan starts, the water cooling jumps out (without the lid) With the lid, gain a lot of pressure. And water drips from the exhaust and white smoke came out (a little), it seems smoke steam.

Tomorrow I will do tests to be sure of the cause of the problem.

Richy, when you know, confirm if your problem is the head gasket.

regards

Catagorically... YES its the HG.

Ignore Cyl 4... I cleaned some rusty sludge from that pot hence the clean piston. 2 and 3 had standing coolant in the bores ontop of the piston and 1 was carboned up as the picture shows

The problem of my car, is also head gasket. It's confirmed
I haven't opened the engine. The mechanic said it should be a small crack, and if I had ever heard of K-seal. He said he could use to see if it would solve the problem, if not, open the engine.

I'm tempted to use K-seal.

Strange, the gasket is good. This engine has already been opened once and rectification work was poorly done.
Now been rectified again and hopefully stay well.

By the aspect, the water did not enter the cylinder 1.

After opening the engine do the repair the head gasket and the rectification of the head, the problem remains the same.
Cold engine starts shaking and gives the same errors (p0300 and p0301) :(

I don't see what could be the sensors that cause this problem with the cold engine.

Any ideas? please
