When i lift off the throttle in 1st, sometimes in 2nd, the car appears to be pulling back, almost like its trying to brake, quite hard, sometimes throwing me forward!! doesnt seem to happen in 3rd and above, at higher speeds the car rolls smoothly, just in 1st at low speed. any ideas, brake caliper stuck maybe?

Brake caliper you should know about with increased fuel consumption, sounds like normal engine braking to me tbh.

thanks for the reply, I suspected brake binding because its on a previous advisory, iv only had the car a few weeks and im still working it out, iv never had a car that engine brakes so harsh when releasing the throttle, why would the engine brake at low speeds in 1st? engine braking on my last auto only kicked in when applying the brake rolling downhill.

it does appear to brake slightly in all gears, but more noticeable in 1st and 2nd

What was your previous auto? If a traditional auto with a slosh box then you won't have much engine braking at all, the Stilo is a robotised manual box, so you'll have the same engine braking as you would in a manual car (y)

sounds like engine braking to me aswell..... if you want to see if the brakes are still binding go on a drive and get the car warm up. stop somewhere and tip some water over the brakes, the one that sizzles and feel hot to stand next to will be the binding one
