If the ecu is not getting the right voltage, ground or signals from other components it will give you loads of errors. Even if it's just one of the pins that has poor contact. Buy a contact cleaner. Don't use tissue or anything it may leave residue. Spray the contract cleaner directly into the pins for a good few secs don't be afraid to spray it. Make sure it dries completely before connecting it again. 20 mins or so.

Cleaned all ecu connectors and ecu itself, but couldn't fire a car up because after yesterday towing battery is flat... when ignition on and trying to fire it up car is dead only asr failure, ebd failure and loose connection on a screen.

So will arrange to sort it out.

Question regarding ecu, I was looking online for a replacement just in case and found one however last digit is different, mine got 0, but on a website is 1. Does it mean it won't fit?

My ECU number: 6160105400 / IAW5NFT9

PM sent

but for the benefit of other forum users and because i didnt realise you'd asked the same question publically ;) :

as far as i know an IAW 5NF T9 is the same as any other... theres no difference in how it will act in a vehicle. what you really need to look at is the part number, '55186425'. the part number is the 8 digit number next to that 6160105400 on your ECU.

Unfortunately cleaning connectors contacts and ecu pins itself doesn't helped. Manage to charge my battery, but car worked okey for 5 min and after again alternator failure, loose connection & security failure. Tried to fired car for a few times but after 5-10 sec it dies with the same errors.

Need comments on the following:

1) When car is idle all is fine, but when pushing on a throttle pedal and completely releasing it afterwards car dies with the errors listed above. (security failure is coming when trying to refire vehicle).

2) Does anybody know why ecu connectors are different in color? Does they need to different? See photo below:

3) Why ecu holder has a hole in the middle? In the same time ecu itself have same size attached plastic circle at the back?

I got my ecu in front of me and I think it is worth to send and check it and if needed to repair.

Anyone?

the two colors are used to be able to identify the two connectors - they are not interchangable but it could still go wrong when you mess up all parts (ecu upside down and connectors interchanged...)
The hole in the ecu holder is for the plastic air vent of the ecu.

Update on my ecu.

It was tested and is working properly, no repair needed.

I am so upset cause I still do not know what is going on and at what to look at..

Please if anyone got any clues share, because I am not able to find why 'alternator failure', 'loose connection' and 'security failure' appears..

Last error I had was p1684 throttle relearn. Could it cause errors above?

Those 3 errors coming together. Alternator and loose connection and after security failure when refiring car.

Found three topics explaining exactly the same issues I got now, and no one is sharing how the problem was sorted... so frustrated... (n)

who was it tested by?
do you have any details on how it was tested? (i.e what methods were used)

i have a sneaking suspicion that whoever you sent it to plugged it in and 'bench tested' it... unfortunately this doesnt really help with the problem as it could be vibration/heat/uptime dependant or any combination of those 3. i know that some electronics testing companies x-ray the PCB and then inspect all the solder joints. i personally think this would help you more than a benchtest.

sorry, edited my post...

have a word with BBA Reman. tell them what you know has been tested and ask them if they offer anymore indepth tests/solutions to your issue. :)

I still suspect that it is an ecu, the engineer I spoke with wasn't too confident when he was speaking.

sounds ominous... if its not ECU ill be as surprised as you are:confused:

Finally got all paperwork with me (from ECU test company).

It says:

We have manually checked all input-output circuits and components and we have performed a full visual inspection of the main board and components using a microscope. However we were unable to run this unit in a real time simulation, so we cannot say for sure that it does not have a processor or software fault.

Any comments?

nothing is burnt out blistered or dropping off... a good thing (y) i dont think they would pick up small fractures in the balling by visual inspection but it all depends on what magnification they were using.

however, i still believe you need to find a place that does BGA reworking/reballing

drop these guys an email http://www.asktechnology.co.uk/bga_rework.htm ask them about whats involved and if they can help. feel free to find another company if you like maybe someone local.

Thanks for the advice.

Spoken with 2 companies BBA Reman and one above, was told need to send and they will have a look.

What I have done today on my stilo (good weather):

Battery was charging overnight cause it was flat (didn't used a car for a week or more),
Cleaned Throttle body,
Cleaned MAP sensor,
Cleaned all Battery contacts,
Cleaned D4 connector and fuses (fully disconnected them and sprayed),
Cleaned ECU and connectors

After I put everything back and car worked fine for approximately 40 min (didn't drive anywhere), however had engine light on (don't have error code reader at the moment).

After that spot that little bit smoke is coming out from the place shown below:

Smoke.jpg

Does anyone know why and is it thing to worry about? Is not much but still..

So, while I was waiting 40 min car didn't cut out even once, I will try to drive around and will see how it goes. If still will have same errors as before will send my ecu for propert test to BBA Reman and will go from there.

All any other comments?

Thanks
