Got a 53 plate stilo 1.9 jtd 115bhp getting really bad fuel economy, what should I be getting? I'm getting between 30 and 35 the gear box has been out and a lot off wiring removed from battery area, could something need re setting? And when it's hot I still get a danger off ice sign on my dash? Any help would be great Cheers.

That's awful - I average mid 40's in my MW.

Try cleaning the MAP and cleaning the MAF. I was getting high 30s and that improved it. My MAF actually failed, and a new one mad a big difference.
Also, get some Millers Ecomax and run a couple of double dose tankfuls - will clean everything out.

Everything TangerineTractor said!

After trying the above you could give it a good service if you haven't done so recently. Also maybe a faulty EGR valve? I'm saying that because mine failed and after I had a new one fitted i've noticed a gain in MPG, also having a service helped. I was getting low to mid 30's but now knocking around town its high 30's, low 40's. On a decent run on the motorway lately it averaged 58 :D.

So you could try that (y)

Sorry whats the MAP and MAF? I have recently serviced it havent changed the air filter though? And were is the egr valve located? Cheers

The MAF is easy - if you have the right driver bit...
It's the connector with wired down to the left of the battery, in the air pipe form the air filter. Remove the two screws to take it out, give it a gentle spray/wipe with contact cleaner or carb cleaner - it measures teh flow of air coming into the engine, and adjusts the mix accordingly. If it's not working properly, it will use default settings, so you don;t benefit from increased airflow at speed, and so get worse consumption. A faulty MAF doesn't make much difference if any to round-town consumption.
The MAP sensor is in the back of the engine block - you need to take the engive cover off, and you will see a small connector at the back - it's fixed in with a single 10mm allen key - you'll need one with a ball-end to take it out easily... then clean it the same way as the maf - five minute job once you know what you're doing. Might clean mine again this weekend.

There was a thread where shadeyman posted a video of how to do it: https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/275230-jtd-map-sensor.html

Hi. A couple of thoughts, a lot depends on your drivingstyle as far as mpg is concerned, if you like to put your foot down I would say35 around town is not terrible.

Assuming you drive at a sensible rate, then I would belooking at the danger of ice warning a bit closer.

Modern diesel ecu’s take information from sensors all overthe vehicle air temperature is one, is the engine temperature reaching normal (halfway) on the gauge?
