Sorry about the poor taste in title.

My 1.4 has developed a wyne. First done it when -4C outside a few days ago on a cold start up. Went after 30sec and thought little of it. Similar happened yesterday at idle and it happened earlier today but only when giving it some wellie down a hill 4500>rpm.

Now its more a wyne and not a high pitched squeel that auxiliary belts can sometimes make, so is it likely to be the auxiliary belt or something else?

Tbh I've not had much time to investigate but thought its seek opinions first. 2004 1.4 (y)

I had exactly the same issue a few days ago when I could hear some sort of whining comming from the car when idling, just as if some sort of belt was slipping, ending up with some sort of a squeal with the engine shutting down.

I didn't know what it was..so I left the car in the underground parking for a couple of hours and once all the snow fell the noise stopped.

On the timing belt

I've realised what it sounds like, old radios with poor connections where you can hear the engine rev through it.

Like alternator whine? Bit of a weird noise when not coming through an amp!

When cold, very cold, mine makes a whiny noise and after less than a minute it dissapears. I think it's just water that has condensed onto the belts and is then frozen over night. If you could post a video that would make it clearer, cause there are lots of whiny noises that could come out of a fiat engine :)

Yeah just like that, but from under the bonnet, not through the sound system. Will try and get a video next time it happens.

And thanks for spelling whine properly, I knew I wasn't spelling it correctly in the first place lol.

Doesn't matter how you spell it, all I could think about is
