Hiya, new to the stilo section I owned a punto diesel before. I Recently purchased a 52 plate stilo, it takes a very long time to get started if the car has been standing longer than 5 hours. I took it to the garage as I suspected a faulty glow plug, any way they have tested them and said they are all fine and working. They have spotted that it has a fuel leak tho, lots of diesel around 1 injector, could this cause the cold starting issue?? Any help would be really appreciated as aside from this the car is lovely

Yes. Depending on the leak it could be dragging air in to the fuel system. This would make it hard to start and it would probably smoke quite a lot when it does start up. Dd they not investigate the leak for you?

Thanks for the response, they are going to investigate the leak today. He did advise that it might not be the problem with starting and it could be something else all together. Surely if the leak is identified and fixed, the engine is getting fuel and the glow plugs working it should start??

The common rail and injectors run a 300+ bar, 1,200 bar max I think, so its unlikely any air would be sucked in IMO.
