I think Davren is correct too. The service bulletin gives the chassis number at which mods were made to the bushes and is very specific about the danger of replacing them more than once (dealer must mark axle with white paint to signify one change of bushes). Cars made after the mod should not need bushes replaced as bushes were upgraded to get rid of original problem.

Yes, tell us more Jim, as this is the first time I'm aware of that anyone has suggested that only Stilos from a certain production period are liable to the bush failure issue...

I've replaced the rear bushes in 4 stilo's in the last 2 years, the bushes I used were the updated version(after the mod) direct from Fiat so they should not fail again and will not need replacing.

Good to know if its true.

I'm sorry but I've lost the paper copy of the service bulletin so I can't immediately give you the chassis number and date of mod. From memory it was early 2006 and a different kind of bush, less prone to losing its fluid, was used. It looks like Davren has got a copy of the first page of the bulletin which is several pages long. Maybe he has the whole thing?

Just found it. Mod was made to all versions of Stilo coming out of the Cassino plant in Italy, from chassis number 590962. Date is January 2006. It says from this point on new, improved bushes were adopted. So, it looks like any car from that chassis number onwards should not suffer from leaking bushes (at least not as soon as previous models).

Now on ebay there are some Genuine Fiat bushes for £40, both sides, how can I tell if these are the newer type? I'd rather get some to fit and forget if possible.

I just did it for you.

The ePER says those bushes were released in 2008 but does not list them for the Stilo so deffinately not compatible with the Stilo, different internal design perhaps. If I were you I wouldn't purchase them, go direct to Fiat instead.

Cheers shadey, in view of the limit on changing them I defo think quality over cost, best find my nearest Fiat dealer (Shrewsbury I guess)

Part number 51840600 is currently the correct bush for all Stilos.

@Shadey... Part numbers that have gone through several changes often don't show on the list of compatible vehicles correctly in ePER.

I just checked the Fiat receipt from when I did my own bushes last year, took me a while to find it, misplaced the box I keep all the car stuff in.

Your correct, 51840600 is on my receipt.

For the extra few quid I still recommend buying direct from Fiat. Even if its just so you have a Fiat receipt for genuine parts to put in the cars history for the next owner.

Next Owner ! Thats forward thinking for you, Mind you Stilo JTD prices seem to be strong right now, looking on Autotrader this morning good clean JTDs seem to fetch (or owners are asking) a good price compared to what I paid, and few have leather, which is a big thing for me, although I saw a 150MJ for 2.5k and very low miles too, in a lovely blue, most cars like mine are very close to 2k without the leather:confused: How I got mine for what I did I'll never know, but how I can find another car to match this one I don't know......

Although there are many times I wish I had a MW to lug stuff around:)
