My 1.2 Active has done just over 9000 miles and has started to suffer cluth judder. It happens when the car has warmed up and occurs in 1st and reverse. I thought at first that it was me, maybe taking the clutch too high when pulling away or the revs being too low, but as I rarely stall the car then I think not.

Has anyone else come across this? The car is 18 months old so I guess I'll have to book it in, just don't want them saying it's the way I drive!

My 1.6 seems to be the opposite. I get judder when it's cold. I have 7600 miles on the clock. The judder seemed to go when the engine was warm. I have just had a service and I asked the garage to have a look at the clutch, they said they didn't notice anything but they adjusted some cables that run around the back of the engine and it seemed to cure it for a couple of days. It has started again and seems to be getting noticeable when warm now. I have a couple of friends with Punto's they have both had the same problem and have had their clutches replaced under warranty. Perhaps there is a bad batch of Fiat clutches.

It might be the same problem experienced by the mk2/ 2.5 puntos, as i imagine the engine (1.2) would be the same.

If so, you could possibly do with having a modified clutch fitted under warranty- get your local dealer to sort it out ASAP, and check the punto section for more details

I have the same problem wen am out in the moring and pulling away for the first time and mayb at the first two junctions, then it goes away very werid. any ideas on wot it can be?

(y) mine did that too, even soo worse that when cold i could not normally drive away, after a few tests i lubricated the clutch lever on the gearbox, had too make a long tube too an oilcan, since then its over and going a lot smoother.

There's a lot of fthings that can cause clutch judder. It's obviously driving/slipping/driving/slipping The most common is contamination on the clutch plate. Oil on the plate or just contamihation from a glob of clutch dust. Try burning the clutch a bit and see if it improves then at least you know it's not mountings etc.

You may find it just burns off with time in which case lucky you! If it's something like a crankshaft seal gone so oil is leaking into the clutch housing then it's only a clutch change and replaced oil seal that will fix it

(I realise this is an old thread, but people performing forum searches on the topic may find the information useful.)

I had similar problems for several months, progressively getting worse, but seemed to lessen when the car was warm.

I mentioned it to my dealer when I was booking the car in for it's year 2 service and they suggested dropping it off the night before, which I did.

When I picked it up at the end of the following day, they told me they had replaced the clutch.

It's now as good as new!

My Abarth suffers from this even though it's a Selespeed - posted already in another thread. Done 12k miles and Fiat are replacing the (y) whole clutch assembly under Warranty in a coupla weeks.

Being replaced seen them today so hopefully that will sort it

I am digging this up again ....

I have bad clutch judder when my 1.6 is cold, after a few mins of warming up its fine, its really the first couple of mins.

Now heres the thing .... can I get this sorted on my 4th year warrenty ?

I dont want to have a new clutch put in at Main dealer prices £££££

The car is booked in for Thursday, I may well cancel it though as I can not afford a £500.00 bill from the dealer, worn clutches slip, they dont judder ...right ?

Cars done 43K ... Any Ideas

My Selespeed seemed to do this sort of thing this morning, not happened before though - I'd put it down to the *HOT* :yuck: weather it had been sat in and not used all weekend.

I'll have to see if it happens again, hope not.....

My clutch tends to creak in hot weather, im putting it down to metal expanding with the heat we've had over the last few days, if it keeps up the dealers getting another visit.

I'm considering trying a different dealership for my clutch, i'm actually going to ask them if their mechanics are better than arnold clark.

*EDIT*

Ok i called Reg Vardy Paisley (Alfa/Fiat dealership) shockingly helpfull, cars booked in first thing tomorrow morning with a courtesy car!!! Man how different this is from Arnold Clark Glasgow. They are investigating the creaking clutch and i can keep the courtesy car as long as needed for them to complete the repairs.

So far my hopes are high, lets see if they help me out :)
