General FIAT Connect Nav V.12.2 FIRMWARE UPDATE

Is there any link to the v11 update? What is different in v11 compared to v9.8?

I've added download links for v9.9 and v11 to post #39 above. I've never tried it because nobody has ever reported any benefits from it. You have to ask yourself "Do I really want to take the risk?" ;)

I use v9.9 in my CN+. It seems to improve the spoken accuracy of distances to junctions when the dashboard cluster is set to miles. The inaccuracy doesn't occur if the cluster is set to kilometres.

12.2 is definitely not for the Stilo Connect NAV+.
I have a defective unit (had some problems after a longer period of usage, but always booted correctly) and tried to flash it with 12.2. But during the trial of flashing appeared only the mismatched screen of post #35 (right bottom).

Afterwards I replaced the FLASHER.OUT file of 12.2 with the FLASHER.OUT from 9.9 and burned a CD.

It looked like that the flashing progressed correctly and finally appeared the "flashing OK" message.
BUT afterwards the Connect did not boot, only an incorrect screen appeared (similar to the screen of the post #35 - right bottom).

After this I could reflash it with 9.9 and seemed to work again.

I prepared another hibrid flashing disk where I copied the VXROM.OUT, VXWORKS and CRC_K and FLASHER.OUT of 9.9, the other files were from 12.2.

Again the flashing seemed to progress correctly and finally showed the "flashing OK" message.

The Connect started to boot correctly, appeared the logo with 9.9 but nothing else.
I could switch it on and off with the power button and ignition key. But after a few attempts it freezed totally no more reaction on the power button and ignition key.
So it has finished its life.

Now I searched in the users manuals and found that the screen of Stilo is different from the other units:
Stilo 7" 480 x 234 (strange is the vertical resolution, seems to be incorrect - the Stilo screen is vertically and horizontally larger than the others -, but this resulotion is stated everywhere)
Bravo 6,5" 400 x 240
Croma 6,5" 400 x 240
159 6,5" 400 x 240
147 5" 320 x 234
This different resolution is the reason of the incorrect images. And probably the flash eproms are also incompatible.

So if you want to save your Connect, don't try with 12.2.

Connections on the back are the same, but you'd have to make a new front panel to make it fit in the dashboard.

I've got a Ducato Connect Nav+ that I considered fitting in the Stilo for the "phone home" function. It can send a text message of the vehicles GPS location. I though it could work as a tracker if there was a way to program it remotely. Problem would have been making professional looking front panel though.

I think any of the Fiat/Alfa Connect Nav+ units will fit in the carrier and the wiring would be the same for all of them. Making a suitable front panel would be the only problem.

All the later versions that use firmware version 12.2 onwards are NIT G2 systems whereas all Stilo units are NIT G1. The map discs are different for NIT G2 systems.

Which part of the dash are you referring to as the front panel exactly? Just the Estes surrounding the nav facia?

So presuming you got one of the v12.2 with NIT G2 and connected it into a Stilo and installed the correct map disc, it would run fine? Would you have to go through the same malarky getting it to work with typing in your security code or re-installing the flash drive? With the latter I'd assume you'd need to get the firmware disc drone somewhere

Found this on eBay:

Looks good on the face of it, lots of features including DVD/ tv which I really want in my Stilo. Though the picture of it from the back makes me think it won't fit

The Connect of Bravo (and also the others) would fit in the bracket and the electrical connections are the same. Only the front panel is different which would look a bit odd.

I also was thinking to buy a Connect from a Bravo and somehow make an adaptor for the front panel.

But I am not sure whether the CAN networks are compatible (the Body Computer is different in the Bravo).

So first I should find a device for a short test.

Just to let you know that if you don't have Nero to create your firmware update disc then 'imgburn' is a great Free software.

It's very simple to use with additional features.

I've never had Nero but have always used 'imgburn to create image/iso file onto cd.

Correct that v12.2 is only for Nit g2 systems and if any maps are to be created then a slow speed (x10 - x16) onto a quality disc.

The best disc on the market is Verbatim.....as most would agree!

gazo (this guys is great) from the gpsunderground, referring to v12-3 says:

'I am almost certain that after the update your G1 Connect Nav is now a G2 Nav
For this platform you should use the RT3 maps'.
Maybe Alfa's!?
Also on the page 3 Pupo79 say's 'it's not for the Stilo' although the site mentions 12.2 is for Fiats - Croma, Bravo!?

#Devran , does FW update and setup HAVE to be done in the Vehicle or can it be done 'on the bench' with just the +ve and -ve connected? i.e. no can signals etc.

I've repaired several CN+s on the bench but never tried updating the firmware that way. I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work, but unless it's essential to do it out of the car, I wouldn't risk it.

If you do try, you'll need to connect a permanent +ve supply, earth and the switched +ve supply. The ignition supply needs to switched on and off during the process. I can't think of any reason why the CAN connections would be needed.
.

Im converting to white LED whilst I have eveything out of the car figured I could update too.

Edit:- pin 3 is 12v ACC, pin 7 12v and pin 8 gnd of the 'power' iso connector looks like its possible... do the CNs need radio codes, that could be can from BC

Yes... as you're retro fitting one, once it's in the car and you switch the ignition on, it will ask for the "Master Code". After entering the code it will be stored in the Body Computer so you won't need to enter it again even if the battery is disconnected.

Hello every body!

Juste to be sure, the firmware 12.2 do NOT work on Fiat Stilo, the last version are the 11, and it Does NOT read the RT3 maps right?

Thanks you!:slayer::slayer:

Ok thanks you!

Other question, how can I check the version of my firmware (Fiat Stilo Abarth)?

It's very difficult to find some recent maps! Fiat sell it for 300 euros!!!
