Hi all, recently my Stilo has developed a horrible deep squeeling kind of sound when i apply the brakes moving backwards.

The noise only comes from the rear of the car, does anyone know why this is ? Its a 56 plate so i cant imagine the pads needing replaced already after only 20,000 ?

Cheers, Greg

It's pretty normal, i have it and my neighbour has it too AND his sister has it (we all drive stilo's OR maybe Stili?) so its one of those things. I was told as you break moving foward all the time your breaks wear in such a way that that when you break in reverse you kinda go 'against the grain' thus the squeaking.

I love that noise, it scares small children like my 2 year old daughter and her friends. They soon get out of the way when I am reversing into my drive. Much to the dismay of their mothers who moan and put their fingers in their ears.

I just get out, slam the door and say 'sports brakes' whilst nodding and winking ;)

Jacked it up last night and both rear wheels make a very slight noise as they rub against the disc when I spin the alloy a full 360 degrees.
The front also rub slightly, is this normal ??

Greg

It's fairly normal but depends how much effort is required to spin the wheel.

A fair easier test for binding brakes is to drive on the flat for a bit and then let the car come to a rest without touching the brakes at all (quite tricky on busy roads :)).

Get out of the car and then carefully touch each disc on the car. If one is very hot then that calliper is binding. Be very careful as the discs might be VERY hot
