My car squeals when its cold. It is the alternator drivebelt.

The setup on the Stilo Abarth is stupid. There is no tensioner, and no adjustment on the alternator.

The car uses a special stretchy belt.

Different suppliers including FIAT list a range of different parts for the car, but they are all too long which makes them squeal, or too short which means they won't go on the car.

Anyone ever found a belt that will fit an Abarth Stilo or any other 5 pot FIAT of the same config. It is doing my nut!

I got mine done a while ago when I first got it. I'll try to track down the part number for you...

The two aux belts that I got fitted are 46798891 and 46758804 and the prices were £10.78 and £9.66 respectively. I don't know which is which though but in order to change the alternator belt, you have to take the other one off anyway. Personally, I'd just change both...

A local fast fit place replaced both of the two belts. The long one was okay to get hold of but the other one they had a nightmare with. Even FIAT said they couldn't get hold of one. They ended up getting a belt from a factor. It just isn't right.

Will have to go get the fast fit place to talk to FIAT again. The squeal only happenes when it is cold, or just after its started when alternator is under highest load.

Thanks for the pics.

Will get into it.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread but thought it easier than starting a brand new one.

I have exactly the same problem as above except it's squealing nearly all the time now. Found out the garage put an aftermarket alternator belt on mine so am after the genuine Fiat one. I see the part numbers above but can anyone kindly point me in the right direction of somewhere that supplies the genuine parts? Might as well order the air con aux belt as well while I'm at it seeing as it has to come off to fit the alternator one.

Do I have to ring up my local Fiat dealer to be sure of genuine parts? They are quite pricey!

Thanks in advance

Scrap that last post, turns out it's not the belts causing the squeal now! :S

Have managed to source some parts from my local Fiat dealer, they gave me 10% discount for no reason whatsoever :)

I know this is an old thread, but today I found an easy (if fairly drastic) way to get that wretched alternator belt on. See attached picture for your amusement...

...yep, just take the front of the car off and unbolt the air conditioning compressor - leave the lower bolt in place so the compressor can pivot, then with the belt on, use a trolley jack to raise the other end of the compressor and put the other two bolts back in (y)

Alternatively, make sure you have the special tool for fitting the stretch belt. I tried a 24mm open-ended spanner but couldn't get it to stay on the (recessed) nut of the alternator pulley.

I've had the front end off in the last few days for other reasons. It makes removing the exhaust manifold a lot easier. Also I've had the air conditioning compressor shaft seal replaced (trying to cure a slow refrigerant leak). There are probably lots of jobs for which it's worth taking the front off, as it's a half-hour job to do so and beats trying to work in that narrow space in front of the engine.

Thank you - I don't know how I missed that, guess I wasn't around the forum a few months ago! - I possess both a grinder and a welder, but not a 24mm spanner - next time, I shall make a tool as you have done. Very clever and I like the way you have doubled-back the ring onto the handle to achieve the required offset.
