Hi everyone, i got a 2002 Fiat stilo Abarth 3 doors Semi-Auto,

recently the Low engine Oil pressure comes up on the display, after that i buy a 1 liter Engine Oil from Halfords to pour in the car engine, it is fine for 2 week , but yesterday it comes up again with the low oil pressure message, does anyone face to this problem?? what should i do??

thank so much

May not be similar, but I recently stalled while manoevering at slow speed on hard lock and got the same message. It's baloney, 'cos mine's full of oil and it's never happened before or since.

thanks so much first , but do you suggest i put some more engine oil for the fiat?? i bought a
SELENIA 20K 10W 40 ENGINE OIL FIAT ALFA ROMEO 1 Litre from Ebay,

Relying on the low oil pressure warning as the indicator of low oil is not a good thing to do :( If you've got a low oil pressure warning, then engine components won't be betting the oil they need and you'll destroy your big end bearings... quickly... if not already.

Oil pressure is not the same as low oil  Low oil pressure will be caused by low oil but the dipstick is the way of maintaining your oil level, not the pressure warning.

Check your oil using the dipstick 5-10mins after running you engine and top as necessary. I'd also suggest moving to 10W60 as well. (y)

Low oil pressure in an abarth is often fairly terminal for the engine.
I suggest you don't drive it until the cause has been diagnosed as your engine may be repairable now, but next week it may well be only good for scrap.

It is just occur initial in this 2 days, but before if occur when i am driving, after that i put a liter of engine oil then is fine untill now, what do yo think?

I have had the same problem with my stilo abarth 52 for about 3 months now, starting with the warning light when i only went around roundabouts then got more regular when i was braking hard. Filled it up with a litre of oil and the warning light does not come on for about three weeks. I have been just topping it up every month with a litre.

There are no oil leaks on the floor and no smoke out of the exhaust, also no reduction in power......

Its due to go in to the garage mid April so hopefully shall get an answer soon.

I believe the Abarth is rated by Fiat as using a litre of oil every 1000km... I'd highly recommend using your dipstick once a week and checking it 5 mins after the engine has been run. (y)

Don't rely on the oil pressure warning as a measure of oil in the engine... it'll be curtains for your engine if you do! :(

My Stilo Multiwagon sometimes gives a low oil pressure warning on startup. I took it into the dealer and their service centre manager told me that it's a problem they've found with Stilos - and may be accompanied by a short rattle from the engine (I also heard the rattle on occasion). I was told if it doesn'r recurr when driving then it's fine - the oil pressure is clearly ok seconds after ignition. BUT you may want to try turning the key to switch all electrical systems on for a few seconds BEFORD starting the engine. I've had no worsening of the situation in the past 6 months. Hope that helps.

i've just had to fork out £2000 to replace the engine on my stilo 1.8! i had no warnings at all but post catastrophe the garage found the oil pump had failed and within a mile had completely shredded the big end. Apparently u should normally get low pressure warnings before they eat themselves but occasionally don't so i'd certainly be careful if it keeps happening as it doesn't seem to take long to go from fine to destroyed.
