Hi there all,

I recently purchased a 2002 Fiat Stilo 1.8 Dynamic 1.8 3 Door in yellow with the lovely glass roof,
On saturday I went to open the roof and it made a crunching sound, which i persumed wasnt a good sign, so i pulled down the console and manually wound it shut, i've since looked at the motor and the cogs to make sure they werent shearing off and they look good, but now i've put it all back to together theres no power to it, or the electric curtain. I've taken down the roof lining, so i can have a proper nose around the roof,
Have any of you got any ideas onto how i could solve this?
Any help will be appricated.
Danny

I presume you've tried the reset trick (you'll find it if you Search the Forum)

Did you give it a clean and look for any signs of why it might have jammed in the first place - they can collect a lot of dirt over time.

Does the roof open/close properly using the manual method? If so, it could be just a blown fuse and means that the mechanism isn't ruined. There is a possibility that something is fouling the tracks and just needs a good clean. Check the fuse.

Many thanks for the replies guys,

The sunroof buttons arent working, along with the electric blind buttons, and this happened after i removed the motor to check it,
i checked the two fuses 45 & 46 and they were good, is there any others to look at?
and as for looking at the sunroof it using the manual method i havent tried yet - pushed for time.
Is there any obvious signs i should look out for?

Cheers guys, :):)

Okay fuse 49 needed replacing, and done.
The reset trick only seems to work when the dial for the sunroof is in the "closed" position, and it just makes a real loud crunching sound.
the roof is jammed shut , and wont manually open either, oh :(

The manual method is extremely stiff and does require alot of elbow grease. I remember when mine got confused and before reading about the reset method, I had to wind it shut with alot of force. Imagine my frustration when it started raining!! You need to give it some welly. If it crunches using the key, then you may have a gearing problem. The fact that the blind is playing up too may suggest a control problem.

This sounds a bit alarming :bang:

I've never had the nerve to remove mine yet (have thought about it) and certainly not after some of the Fiat techs on here talked me out of it :(

if youve just recently bought (i.e. in the last few months), if you got it from a garage it may have a warranty perhaps and they could sort it?

i think i need to clean and re-grease mine as its starting to make squeely noises when opening and closing :(

I got it privately so no warrenty, i may take the roof out this weekend as its really bugging me,
does the cleaning and greasing technique really make a difference, cos if so i will manually open it, or try my hardest and get some elbow grease into it! :slayer:

You would be supprised how much effort is required to move these things manually. Half a turn = a few mm.

Oh and as a reassuring thought, you can't knacker it using the manual method unless you have a serious gearing problem ;)

Best thing for it is teflon spray. I cleaned mine off and sprayed it liberally. Unlike grease, it doesn't attract much dirt and it is almost invisible. The dogs dangly bits!!!

I've tried and the damn roof wont budge,
i will be brave and take the whole roof out on saturday!(y)

....then you are very brave :worship:

Don't forget to keep your camera handy as you may be able to do a nice write up on what you discover as I'm sure many members would be interested.

Hope you're successful (y)

Yeah i will using my camera, i'll post them up after the job is completed
I really hope the blades have just come off the runners or something simple

On a more positive note, I've still got A/C :D

Looking foreward for the pictures and the result. I have the same problem and thinking of removing the whole roof in the spring time. My motor does work but only to make that sound but the pannels not moving. It also seems to be out of syncro with the blind. Manual opening is not possible also.

Re: Stilo Sky Window not working?

Hello All,
I have a fiat stilo 1.6 16v dynamic with the sky window and it has never worked. It works fine winding it manually and ive used a teflon based lubricant to good effect. However I really need to get this working electronically. I've tried the reset trick but I just hear a clicking sound and then nothing. Ive removed the controls and checked the pcb's for any signs of component failure but this seemed ok. I removed the motor and gearing assembly and connected it to a 12v dc supply and the motor ran but smoke started to appear. I bent the metal clips off the bcak off the motor and withdrew the brush assembly and motor shaft. The coils looked fine no burning but I did find a small zener diode which I think balances the voltage to be burnt out. So this I replaced and after refitting the motor assembly I tested this on the bench and the motor ran with good torque.
I thought I had cracked it but when I fitted everything back on the car and tried it, it still didnt work!! No blown fuses at all?
I'm losing my patience with this now so if anyone can help it would be much appreciated!!
:)
