NB If you have intermittent airbag warning light regardless of whether anyone is in passenger seat which disappears if you waggle the wiring under the seats then this cure is not for you

Re: Air bag system passenger OCS replacement

Maybe it will be useful for anyone else. How I fix the problem with OCS. I remove it how it says in this article and then just flip it upside-down and install again. And now it works perfectly!

Re: Air bag system passenger OCS replacement

I was recently quoted 206 for one of these from a Fiat Dealership.

All i would say, is that if your buying second hand, make sure you have a grey connector comming from the base unit, as not all models have it fitted in the seat.

yes prices have gone up a fair bit recently, the OCS for leather seats is even more expensive.

I bought one yesterday, from the local Fiat Dealership (I live in Greece), for 137 euros. The new OCS comes with the lower part of the seat.
Why is it so expensive in the UK? I suppose it's the same OCS.

Re: Air bag system passenger OCS replacement

My OCS failed some time back. But rather than buy a new OCS, on this site I read about these people selling an OCS simulator

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Airbag-Steuer-Systeme

So I bought one. It actually does the job. It wasn't difficult to solder in, provided you can solder of course. The only drawback I see is that the passenger airbag will always go off in an accident. But I don't see that as a big drawback. You can turn the deployment of the passenger airbag off anyway, with the key. I guess handy if you have a child seat. I think fitting a new OCS mat is a bit more work that fitting this black box.

Re: Air bag system passenger OCS replacement

Fantastic guide. It is easier when working on a 5-door as you get access to the seat from both sides. No need for the powerlifting and turning of the seat.

I didn't think of my heated seat (mainly for genital-odour straight to your nose) which is another wrapping glued on top of the OCS sensor. Remember to rip this off gently, keeping the threads intact and use some carpet tape to fix it to the cushion. Make a hole in the OCS mat (no need to worry) to fit the electrics into the seat base. The seat base itself is pre-moulded for this.

Re: Air bag system passenger OCS replacement

THanks for the tips, I've currently got my seat out and all unclipped. But the cover seems to be connected in several places by metal hoops that are connected to metal rods built into the foam. I wanted to try and flip the OCS before buying the new one. Any ideas how to get the leather cover off all the way?? And yeah leather seats if thats any significance????

Sorted,

I had to use needle nosed pliers, thread the tip into the loop and prise it open as it's not a complete ring. Then Just use the pliers to close them up when finished.

I had noticed that my OCS had moved from it's original placement on the foam seat so used a glue gun to put it back into place and keep it flat, no problems with a run down to the shops and back again, fingers crossed it's fixed, cheers Decks!

Re: Air bag system passenger OCS replacement

anybody knows what's the price of an OCS replacement these days? I can't find anything on-line... Might give my local dealer a ring on Monday. I'm looking for the 5-door stilo version.

Cheers,
Andy

Re: Air bag system passenger OCS replacement

Some people have posted that turning it upside down has worked, or there's an aftermarket OCS emulator available for about 50. It signals the airbag ECU that the passenger seat is permanently occupied so the airbag will fully deploy in an accident whether there's a passenger in the seat or not.

This is one from Lithuania but I've also seen one with the correct connector somewhere.
