[!]hiya ppl ive just bought a 97 Punto and to be honest its getting me down! I dont mean to sound snobby but due to an impending fatherhood and a mortgage its all i can afford right now! I really like driving the car and it drives better than i actually expected to. But now the bad news!! It has been back to the dealer who has checked every gasket and seal within the engine and gearbox!! Oil leak still not fixed and a ruined driveway(650 notes to repave if i do it myself). Then on saturday after a 200 mile round trip smoke began to come from the blowers at the windscreen!! Luckily i was near home and not 100 mile away but its going back to dealer tommorrow but before i take it back i was wondering if anyone here could tell me where i stand legally with the dealer and to check if anyone has had this happen to them???

i may add to this that it is a 60 sx with all the electrics but to be honest it has still let me down. If and when i get my money back I will more than likely go for a sporting as i have a feeling it will be more fun than my Fiesta Zetec s to which the engine blew after 21k!!

Take it to a different garage to get a second opinion. Chances are that if your car has a warranty, they'll probably wait until it expires cos then they'll be getting cash from you for the repair.

How long you had it? If it's only a few weeks and you have problems like this already, i'd take it straight back and demand my money back. As a dealer or 'trader' they are obliged to give you a refund if they cannot satisfactorily fix any problem.

P.S Try a pressure washer on your driveway, they work wonders!

well just an update!!!

Went back to dealer who wouldnt give me a refund and instead gave me a car 400 notes cheaper than the punto and is a total banger!!(Escort TDLX)

IM going to the citizins advice bearau on Monday and then hopefully to a solicitor and pray i get my money back!! I only paid 1100 pound for the punto as ive just bought a house but it is money i really need for a decent car as ive a fair drive to work!!

Next i think ill go for a sporting cuz if its more fun than the 60 sx its top of my list!!

use a pressure washer on the drive.

they're very good, perhaps too good as you have to do the whole drive as you can see clearly where it has been used. otherwise, you'll end up with a drive with really clean patches!

Escort TDLX crap car take it back. tell them to use the £400 to fit new engine to punto.
