Hi guys im looking at buying a punto gt thats on Trademe (which is nz version of ebay) have emailed seller asking if anythings been modified apart from its HUGE intercooler and if there has been any work done. anyway i was wondering what some key points are to look for problem wise? rusty areas, common problems etc? also i think this will be a long shot but do the mk2 sporting front bumpers fit the mk1? as i plan on cutting intercooler size down but the bumper has been cut to accomodate and there is a mk2 punto at wreckers close by which looks like the same color.

well for a kick off that's got and aftermarket Exhaust and an aftermarket induction kit so I would really be questioning how stock it is. plus with it having a stupidly over sized intercooler I would be questioning weather its got a bigger turbo and weather its be Re-mapped or not, the car on the whole looks a good car and too well looked after for it to be stupidly modified with a massive IC and not had other things done to match.

Has the owner said anything about power out put as it should be around 140bhp stock and maybe around 160bhp with the IC, Exhaust and air filter.

No I've sent email asking about what work has been done and if they have recipets etc but they haven't got back to me yet. That intercooler will certainly be the first thing to change! Nobody likes lag! If it does have 140+ hp then I'd be very happy if ecu hasn't been chipped what brand would you suggest (seb0 is really the only one in aware of) Im after more of a daily with the power to surprise few people than racecar

has the GT1 engine which was 136bhp from factory. Rust is your main enemy with a GT so check it thoroughly!!! floorpans, inner arches and boot - usual places.

the seb chips are the easy route but the ecu's are fully mappable, if you can afford or know a decent rolling road you can just take it there and get them to map it to your exact engine rather than just a ball park map like the seb chips - not that the seb chips are bad.
