Just bought a '99 60 S with non-functioning rear wiper. Have noticed quite a few s/hand motors on ebay, so am wondering if simple motor failure is the most likely cause –*or could it be something else? I've checked all the fuses (don't know which one is for the rear wiper) and all seem OK. Thanks for any advice. :chin:

Hey

Me, my bro and sis have a MK1. My bro and sis's are 60sx and both of theirs have had new wiper motors on in the last couple of years. Only had mine about 7 months and its still working atm and will hopefully continure to do so :)

Check that the pins next to the boot lock make good contact when the boot is shut. Mine were slightly out of line and stopped the wiper from working. Wish i discovered that before i changed the motor for nothing !!

Thanks guys. Sounds from these two posts that it could be either, or both! The tailgate on our car doesn't shut that brilliantly, previous owner put big speakers in the parcel shelf which has splayed out a bit as a result and kind of obstructs the tailgate closure, it locks ok, but now you've mentioned this I wonder if it is closing all the way down as it should.
When you say pins next to the boot lock do you mean the four plungers that touch on small square metal plates to the left of the lock? thanks again, Tony

In my case the fault was in relay located under white plastic on wiper motor. I replaced relay, and wiper works like new. New relay is cheap, 1-2eur, but you need soldering iron.

Yes thats the ones, take your parcel shelf out and you can see through the side windows if they are making good contact.
