I'm about to run out of the latter for my Punto 1.1l 55S and went to get some more and the Motorworld shop recommended the former (both are the 10W-40 version). Checking Castrol's site I see the one I've just bought seems fine as I don't make long journeys so it (going by the blurb) sticks to the engine accordingly when I start up, so I'm wondering what the difference is with 'GTX'.

Is there a big difference or, like a Nike shirt, you're just paying extra for a few letters on the side? :)

Thanks in advance,

no difference just a few letters

there may be some long molecules in the magnatec to make it more of a super fluid but if you do long ish journeys there's no point i mean your engine isn't going to wear out on firs start up without using it for crist sake

i use magnatec in mine as i get it from work for nout

its the same oil, the magnatec just has extra additives that help it to stick to the walls of the engine and lubricate when starting.

and thats coming from a motorworld employee :p

Thanks for the replies. Is it just the GTX that has the extra additives as both say 'Magnatec'.

As it turned out, the guy who sold it to me was buying a 2nd hand Punto this coming weekend. His will be an R-reg for £300 whereas mine's a P-reg that cost me £6500 (plus a couple of grand in interest from the finance) and was a year old when I got it. Still, it runs like a dream apart from the odd thing that needs fixing as would any car that's ten years old, and it's very quiet.

I'd definitely get a Punto again (unless someone buys me a Ferrari Testarossa) as it's been very reliable, and prior to that I had a Nissan Micra that decided it's too convenient to go forward and that breaking down in the middle of the high street was what a Nissan Micra was best at :)
