Wipers weren't working well ( periodic wiping and blades wouldn't return to beginning position ) so I went to the service....( MK1, 75 SX )
They told me that some relay had died ( though linkage and el. motor were OK ) and that I have to replace the WHOLE THING!
Roughly here it's like 70E for used and about 186E for new part.
Any ideas on how to fix or replace ONLY the broken relay?

I think thats bull**** mate. Basically, you need to take the motor off the wiper linkage (fairly self explanatory). There is a white/cream plastic thing screwed to the wiper motor. I believe this is the relay, as the motor just spins constantly if you run it without this plastic box plugged in.

Run down the scrappies and replace that part. Or just buy a new front wiper motor.

It's probably a little easier to replace the entire thing, but I replaced my grinding wiper motor with a very good one from the scrappies for £10 which included the relay box.

The job it's self isnt difficult. It just takes a while to eventually get to the motor on its own. A garage wanted to charge me £200 to replace the motor including labor, but I did it myself for £10.

Hope this helps, someone correct me if I'm wrong about that plastic thing being the relay.

Thanks for the advice.
I've been askin' around and manage to find though only one el. motor ( with the white plastic box -yes it has relay in it! ) but couldn't get it cheaper than 30E ( ie ~20£ )
Thanks again - I'll figure it out....;)

:bang:Can anyone tell me where the relay is for the front wiper motor. I have had 2 mechanics look at it and they both seem to think the motor is fine but there is no power getting to the plug that plugs into the motor.
