When shopping around for my 2 Punto (15 years ago) I tried sitting in a few other cars like Ford Puma, etc which looked nice enough on the outside but the major thing I noticed is how low to the ground other car seats are.

In the punto you sit upright like you're in a chair and I find that seating position very comfortable - I just got back from a 15 hour car journey in my friend's VW from Holland to UK and I've been aching for a week. The seats in his car (Passat) were very low compare to the punto .. If I ever lookf or another car - the seating position is going to be a key thing I look out for ... what other make / model of cars have upright seats like the punto?

When the time comes to buy another car I don't doubt you'll try a few out and find one you like, it's impossible now to suggest what to buy because without knowing when you intend to change it who knows what cars will be available then?

Chances are the reason you had such an achey back following such a long journey was 1. It was a very long journey and 2. It's wasn't a seat your body is used to, had you been driving around in a Passat for the last 15 years I'm sure your back would have been fine.

As a fellow sufferer of back problems I strongly suggest you don't get a French car as although their seats are very soft and comfy, they are often to soft and squashy and offer no support
