Technical Heater blower challenge

Good news located Number 8 relay . Bad news removed this blower still unplugged new fuse in F31 7.5 . starts up engine fuse pops . Is this developing into a major problem?

Fuse f31 - is for 3 systems
- Air conditioning
- Reverse Light
- Interior Fan relay

Since its blowing the fuse soon as the ignition is been applied, its telling me there is a dead short somewhere

I'd get some more fuses, as your gonna keep blowing them

I suspect it might be the reverse switch or a short possibly in the rear light cluster (passenger iirc)

I'd disconnect the gearbox reverse switch, this will pretty much isolate MOST of the circuit, and see if the fuse blows then

I'd also check the rear light as well, ensure the correct bulbs been fitted (p21w), Single pole, and that the wiring hasn't been tampered with

This is going to take some diagnosis time, and testing
Which is either over your head = costly mechanic / auto sparky time
OR
You loose your hair and go grey early

Gonna stick with the suggestions been real challenge so far as thread title says.Last resort will be a mechanic.

There is no air con so thats ruled out.

Do we all agree that the relay is fine the blower is fine the resistor is fine after all the checks and eliminations I have carried out?

I would rather not move onto lighting cluster as yet but it will be my next move.

Will probably need a little more advice on isolating the reverse switch. Just away to check how to remove passenger side light cluster.

One last thing thanks for help and patience thus far its been terrific

Isolating the reverse switch is a 30second job

open bonnet - find switch sticking out gearbox at frount - disconnect it
Fit new fuse - ignition on - does it pop?

Sorry had to shoot out last night. But back now
As ziggy said disconnect the reversing light switch from the gearbox.

Ziggy i was just wondering if the wiring for the Air con is in place but not used if so will need a diagram for the Air con ??????????

Just looked at the diagrams and the reversing Light switch is on the positive side so if the switch is duff and going to ground it will blow the fuse

Ziggy - Italian job finished work early shot home took both clusters out no water or debris all bulbs working fine even the bulb that was in reverse light position, all bulbs correct spec both terminals and wires all look in great condition. Unfortunately my daughter has went out in her car.

Looks like my next move will be to disconnect reverse switch to gear box.

Italian Job is there a wire diagram for the reverse switch or is this on the diagram for the blower? A friend at work was asking.

Did you say te reversing light worked ???????? I thought the fuse had blown and with fuse 31 dead then the reversing light will not work

Reversing light is 20 (b) on the diagram attached

Just so Iam clear when my daughter arrives back disconnect reverse switch only and put in new 7.5 fuse in f31. Turn ignition on.

Removing R8 relay last night took blower , resistor , blower switch all out of the equation am I on the same page as you?

Also checking clusters has removed doubt over these?

Thanks again for patience.

yes your correct but i dont understand when you said the reversing light worked with a blown fuse ?????

For future reference heres the complete wiring diagrams for the mk2
If you require the haynes manual i have it in PDF format (let me have your email address) will send it
