The power steering does work fine... Now I've lost my parking space though, have had to park it on the road... Ah well.

So, any ideas what I should do about the stereo saying there's a miswiring? How can I find out where the problem connection is?

Get the car off the road right away. The police can impound a car as its on the road without insurance or tax

What model number is your radio? Is there a reset button you can press?

It has got tax... no insurance though. I know, I'm painfully aware of that but I've nowhere to put it. :( :bang:
There's no way I can afford any kind of insurance, learner or not, at the moment as there have very recently been a couple of thefts around the area and insurance prices have skyrocketed... :(

There is a reset button, I've tried that and it doesn't seem to do anything. :p

Most radios have two 12v feeds, one permanent live and the other switched from the ignition. There is a standard for the plug wiring, but some Fiats in the past (and I think some VWs) have put the two feeds swapped. Check the radio diagram again, and check which car wire is live, and which with ign on, likely they are the wrong way around.

Riiiight. Well over here, car insurance is really expensive for some. Especially new drivers. My insurance is looking to be close to £2000 on what is a modest first car, and I'm earning just over a quarter of that per month before deductions.

Sell the punto and get a 1.1 panda.

the 'insurance on them is peanuts compared to a punto,

just got one for my wife for the cheapness of insurance, (Group 1)

It's actually looking not too bad now. A relative who lives a short walk from me has offered the use of a locked garage that he never uses... This has lowered the quotes I'm getting significantly... By about £800 per year.

Alright, I'll have another look tomorrow - thanks :)

Be careful. Have they asked:
Is it always garaged?
Is it nearly always garaged?
Is it sometimes garaged?

If the first, and any theft or damage occurs overnight not in the garage, they may find a reason not to pay out.

Insurance is about risk. You've agreed to lower the risk by putting it into a garage every night, and walking home, even when raining. In return, they've lowered the premium. If you don't keep you side of the deal, they don't need to keep theirs. You'll have to get used to the walk every day, which will be tedious after the first week, but the reward will be an even better premium next year.

I'm an honest person. What I tell them is what I'll do :)

Anyway I suspect even if the ignition and constant power are the wrong way round, my stereo issues are independent of that. The problem occurred whilst I was tweaking my passenger side mirror adjuster with the door open and the stereo on. When I closed the door the radio cut off and displayed the miswiring message... So I think it's something to do with the wiring in the passenger side door. I've checked the connections on the speakers and it seems okay...

Only one in my family who drives is my granddad, who gets his cars and insurance through Motability, so I don't think I could be added to his insurance.

^ a learner driver can be Added to Motability, (insurance,)

At one stage, DLA-paid for driving lesson's too,(dont know if this still exist's tho,

Ask your grandad to ring and ask

EML and power steering lights are back.
Battery seems okay, still no parasitic drain.

Just found this on ebay. I take it this is the speed sensor plug. Have you found this and cleaned the pins in the plug with some electrical cleaner? Thats what i would do first personally

Either
A the sensors gone duff
B - The mechanical part from the gearbox to the sensor has failed
C - The wiring has got an issue
D - The wiring needs a modification - unknown on what that is
Only fiat do that one :(

The airbag took years before you can order the part on its own

Ziggy

Where does the sensor plug in because just found what they look like. Anychance the connector may just need cleaning bad connection. Because i dont think the error appeared immediately
