With the cold weather the cars always sluggish etc car started making a noise from the exhaust as it had a hole etc when I first bought the car I was going to get around to re fitting a new one paid £44 for centre pipe and back box not bad what a few discount codes can do.... So now I have the de-cat fitted to a complete new system... Here's the damage!

you tend to find either the welds rot
OR
the area's around the welds rot

cheeky repair is to gum it up
A slightly better repair - weld it
Best repair - replace it

Weld would last about... 3-4 months the old system was a mess anyway the backbox had a lot of rust on it so it was all on its way out the rubbers had perished too so I replaced those...

my whole back box pipe came out much more than this little crack, got it welded on 12.11.2014 and still holds, driving everyday

For the sake of £44 and 1 hour labour instead of paying £15-20 for a cheap weld I think I went with the best option

its more of a case - could you be bothered todo the job again?
Go cheap twice or fully out once?

for me - it totally depends on funds at the time

Yeah easy grinder two seconds drop it all off...

More pics of the awful old exhaust was blowing from everywhere

The flexi-pipe outer sheifing often comes off, thin woven material and all that

but that back box did seem to of hand better days

The blowing on the flange is something im finding alot - was there a gasket in there or was it just putty?

No gasket what I did when I fitted the new pipe I put sealant all around the inner flange and the back box fitting to the centre tested it all this morning it's a good fit no blowing etc took it for a spin no daft blowing noises!
