So my car only has the speedo, If I went and got a new one from a scrappers with temp gauge, rpm counter etc would it just be a case of plugging it in and it working straight away?

yes and no

The donor dash HAS TO HAVE A LOWER MILEAGE THEN YOUR OWN
Must be a manual dash for a manual car as well
Dont bother with a HGT dash, it wont work properly with all the features
Get an Active, Sporting, HLX, ELX, Active sport dash

If you have a Mk2 - make sure its a mk2 dash, you cant put a mk2b dash in
And the same goes for mk2b, cant have a mk2 dash

It will also need something called Proxy Alignment,
This can be done by yourself if you have a registered copy of MES (multi ecu scan) And suitable leads
Plus you'll then have a pretty good diagnostic reader too!

B - Take it to fiat - Prepare to be bummed without lube

C - Take it to an auto-electrician, who will do it, IIRC i paid £60 + vat back in like 2008 for it

I'd go option A - it'd probably be a reasonable price in long run

ziggy

Ah well that's not as bad as I thought, I was afraid I'd have to solder wires, I already have the cables to connect to the ECU so now I guess I just have to find one with less than 50k miles on a mk2
