Hi guys we couldn't work out what was up with the Sporting so we decided to strip the whole lot and REPLACE everything gaskets, timing belt + tensioner, water pump, thermostat, oil filter, head bolts, and a serious clean!!! Heads been sent for a skim here's the project so far... Cylinder head gasket etc has been done before,
Fairly recently..
number 1 piston looks alot newer than the others too,
iguess someone's done alot of work on this engine and missed out on the important part, (the C/h skim),

best part was someone in the past has took a hacksaw to the HT lead holder which normaly goes from the inlet manifold to top of cam carrier, this as made the job abit easier, :)
the cam carrier gasket was full off red goo, my guess is Hermatite, as it hadnt set, :(
its arealy clean motor so its worth putting right, :)

Don't forget to check the block with a steel straight edge and a torch/feeler gauge , might need block skimmed,
Everyone assumes it's warped heads if gasket goes.
Don't want one of those
"head gaskets gone AGAIN" threads.
:D

FWIW,
theres alot of time effort going into this,
so its not one that's just getting thrown back to-gether,
so yes everything will be checked & double checked,

if you do a job you might as well do it right .
if it was my car iwouid of took engine out and benched it ...but its not my car or money im playing with here..im just helping the chap out & hopefully help saving another punto from the weigh bridge,

Right heads back been re-skimmed got all my parts for £139.00

- HG set
- Timing belt kit
- Thermostat
- Waterpump
- Head bolts
- Oil filter
- Coolant

All ready for the rebuild now ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1409149090.523153.jpgImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1409149125.453235.jpg

Don't forget clean the bolt holes!
My friend thought it would be a good idea to put the head on to save time, it lasted two weeks and actually blew a hole out the side. Ruined a ported head.

Dont worry chap's.
everythink will be check before bolts go in, ;)

If you want you can all come round and join in, Corky's mar makes a brilliant
cupp'a coffee, :)

Ive been out and bought a new torque wrench for the job too,
Dont lend your tool's out to mates, (lesson learnt,) yup idid have one already..:(

ah well, wrap up warm if your joining us, its cold out there, ;)
