I currently have a few problems with my drivers seat, or rather multiple symptoms of one problem as they all started around the same time.

Firstly there is a creaking/squeaking sound from the seat when I go over speedbumps, round corners etc.

Secondly the seat leans slightly to the left.

And thirdly, over the course of say a week the seat will lower its position slightly so I have to pull the adjuster a couple of time.

The seat pushes down on the rear left side rather easily, however I can't see anything broken.

Anyone had this problem and fixed it? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Seat is currently stripped down to sponge for repairs and covers have been through the washing machine

I ended up replacing my front seats with Alfa 147 leather ones. Much better quality (and about twice as heavy). All they lack is the adjustable lumbar support... -- but they are immensely comfortable and supportive.... :)

Not very helpful, I know: but I found the Punto ones unfixable -- on a permanent basis, anyway -- and then a couple of springs went in the back and base of the driver's seat.... :(

Thanks for the reply.

I thought as much. I've already done a full interior change, and it was either the Blue HGT ones I have now or Black leather Alfa ones. I couldn't be bothered with extra effort for the back seats though. I might have to just source another seat.

If its just the base or whatever that's broken, I should be able to swap with a donor seat, and keep my current back and base, right?

I found the cause of the problem. The welding on this bar has broken, allowing it to move freely on the frame.

Unfortunately I don't know any welders, so I may have to source a new base.
Anyone know how much that would cost to have re-welded?

It totally depends on area and the person welding

I got fobbed off for 50 £ for a small weld on the mk2

When the mk2b needed a weld on the cat I found a local firm
Took it too them already cleaned up (ages with a wire wheel) and let them do it for me
I paid 20 £ that time

Id start a google to find places not mobile as I found it to be cheaper

Take pictures and sendnl it to them for a price

Id also remove the coating if its sade todo so

That would have been perfect, but I'm working 12 hours on Saturday.
Might be able to pop round in the van though depending where he lives ;).
Otherwise earliest I'm free would be Sunday.
I'll pm him.

Thanks again

Yeah, I totally understand. I wouldn't want someone posting my address on the web. Sorting details with him now so I should see you saturday.

And thanks again

ok mate, no probs just let us know,
and then iwill make room in the car for it..

im sure corky wont mind you picking it up from there, hes a decent chap, ;)

Not at all mate, I could see you were busy. Lol
Felt a bit rude myself dashing off straight away, however I got a flat tyre on the van this morning and had to wait 3 and a half hours for someone to come out to it, so I was behind schedule on my work load. Would have stopped for a bit otherwise.

Got to work on the seat as soon as I got home from work around half 8, and its taken me a good few hours to strip both seats down and then put mine back together. I took a couple of pics to post to this thread.

It literally went back in the car about 15 mins ago, and its perfect. Can't thank you enough mate

Glad to hear you sorted it..
It appeard to be a good seat.. out of low mileage breaker 32 k miles
Hence why..I passed that one on to you.
I had others already stripped down but they've been out in the rain a while...

Thanks for collecting it..I've got a bit. More space in my garage now. (y)
