Hey guys, I'm wondering if the punto mk2b 1.4 16v engine will be a straight swap for my punto mk2a 1.2 16v sporting?

1.4 16v looks more or less identicle to 1.2 16v
so id guess it wouid go in

but what about the ecu?
this is what id be looking into

is it a simple case of having the original Mapped or a loom and ecu swap

what about insurance - MOT for emissions - Road tax etc

Insurance is going to be the biggest killer here

Probably cheaper to get a 1.4 16v punto to start with

Ziggy

Idont think insurance wouid be much more,

its the DVLA side of the change id be weary of, is it a simple change on ye olde log book.. or is there more too it?

i think and no disrespect to poster but i think putting this engine in the op is looking for more power but power plant looks same as 1.2 so no insurance advising would be going on
he would find it would run like a bag of spanners unless ecu modified so its a non starter
or it will be if fitted:D

ps should have engineers report followed by single type approval even chop shop mentioned this tother night

I was thinking of a HGT and then looked at the Government Pension Fund on them and its Fookin insane, i'm sure its something like 250 per year unless you are lucky and can find a Pre Sept 2001 model in which it is tax'd on the old system but I have only seen 1 for sale and it was more expensive than and post 2001 lol.

as above, if your thinking along the lines of a HGT then just save some dosh and go buy a 147 or just stick the money into tuning your Sporting.

well get the brakes fixed then:eek:
im sure we can guide you if having difficulties(y)

It's not the brakes, it's incredibly stable under braking. It's the ease with which the rear end looses traction, and unlearning the front engined reaction of lifting off. Like almost all rear or mid engined cars, it can bite hard. :D

Still, one should be fully awake and aware when driving..........

An engine swap will not need the car to be IVA'd, which would then be followed by registration onto either a Q or age related plate. The only exception to this is if the shell needs modding to fit the engine e.g. bulkhead chopping, or if enough of the orginal car is changed in addition so that it doesn't get a high enough 'totting up' score to keep the original registration.

You might need an engineer's report for your insurer though.
