But bolts are easier to QC than welds ;)

That if its easier to remove and repair it may well be insurance grouped lower. As one of the factors they take into account is repair costs after a sandwich accident. Have to assume bolt on bolt off would save labour costs compared to chopping it out and reweld.

To be fair the welding is probably easier and faster to chop off than remove 2 mangled bent bolts and 2 nuts off the mangled studs....

I was referring to batch testing much easier to destructively test X bolts in a batch than try and test a weld once its on the car.....

Coincidentally, my brother wrote his punto off in Norwich last week. A garage near the airport valued the repairs at almost 3 thousand so it was down as a write off. Less damage than yours too. Getting it back as salvage.

Probably a similar level of damage by the looks of it,

Well the car was picked up by the Fiat approved vehicle repairers today, or to put it another way some one with a truck hauled it a few miles down the road to a different garage with a spray gun, anyway should know tomorrow what the full extent of the damage is.

It seems she did sufficient damage however that she made the news

Re: Punto HGT Killed in action - new update

So today the car was eventually picked up but not assessed, have been told the front of the car will likely have to be stripped down to properly assess the damage.

Police emailed through the photos they took at the scene (with fire fighters in the background polishing their jaws of life hoping to cut the roof off) it looks very likely the car is a total loss the radiator contents are on the road and looks like the chassis leg may well have been involved, pictures of the Audi show a big damage to the body work well away from the impact point suggesting that a large chunk of the chassis has moved there aswell (n)

Misses is looking at mini cooper diesels and doesn't fancy getting another one of these hgt multijets as there seem to only be two in the county for sale at the moment, they're getting old now, and they do have serious reliability issues

Diesel Mini's :yuck:

Sway her to get a 500 MJ :D

Having driven both the mini and the 500..... Not in a million years. The 1.6 mini is more powerful than the hgt multijet it will replace (110bhp) does 70+mpg and is tax band B the fiat 500 isn't as well built, higher tax band lower fuel economy lower power smaller/less practical not very comfortable sorry to say it but the mini is a much better car.

Well it is now official the car is a total loss, now all that's left is to negotiate a pay out decide if we buy it back (unlikely) and find a new car.

Am off to the mini dealership in the morning after dropping the other half at work

Once its all sorted I will post up the scrap yard its due to be taken to so that anyone who wants any parts can call them, although I suspect it will be a cat-c and find its way back onto the road in the future

i would suggest most likely copart wisbech
if it is then highly unlikely you could buy it back anyway

Ah well......painful to let it go? Lot of hours put into it?
not really was standard car spent more time fixing it than anything, new clutch brakes flywheel cam belt water pump etc etc it really earned its F(ix) I(t) A(gain) T(omorrow) title this car

not sure why you say this? I would be "buying it back" from the insurance company not the salvage yard they have no say until i sign it over to them, the only liability I would have is for storage costs if I decide to buy it back, of course at the moment I still own the car so they are waiting for my authority (next week) for the car to go to salvage. its currently in bits at the repair centre
