My 1.3 multijet is a very clever little car.

obviously realising that the cold combined with water based coolant means serious risk to the engine from frozen coolant, while on my way into town today and some 20 miles from home it hit upon the great idea of dumping all of the offending coolant on the road thus not needing to worry about the coolant freezing........ Bastard Car !!!

so dumped it at a garage I know well (far to cold to be crawling around under cars) and it should be fixed tomorrow, seems to water pump seals failed catastrophically something I discovered when i tried to refill the coolant and it poured straight out again.

Now I have the fun of working out how to get to work tomorrow....grrrrr :bang:

I wouldn't worry about getting to work tomorrow, I don't think many people will be going anywhere........................................ unless of course your a snow plough driver :p

I work in a hospital there are quite a few people depend on me getting into work

I'd be worried about why it happened.............. :(

original water pump 90,000 miles no over heating, engine working well, i'm not worried about anything sinister

For some reason my GP has decided due to the cold it's going to run incredibly rich, normally get a minimum of 40mpg on my daily commute, normally hovers around the 44 mark, this week without changing my driving style I'm getting 31 :(

Do your tyres.....mine were down 4 psi on all corners when it was minus 6, if it was mild you could be running very soft rubber and killing your fuel economy that way as well as the usual lights fans and sitting stationary defrosting.

Always check coolant freeze point if you don't know the service history..

I've owned the car just over 4 years I know the service history inside out the coolant was all new in the summer and good for -30(ish) It didn't freeze and had nothing to do with the water pump failing after 20 miles of travel at which point the engine was very nicely warmed up
