The other half's '03 Punto has started playing silly buggers all of a sudden

1. The electric fan was making some weird squeaky noises, now has stopped working entirely (thank god it's cold out at the minute!). I've checked fuses and they seem fine - I'm guessing dead motor? Easiest way to check just to test current across it? Any particular way?

2. Airbag light is on. Again fuses all appear fine, unless there are some hidden ones..? lol

3. Engine can be fluttery first thing in the morning, feels like it's not firing on all cylinders, or is having a fueling issue. The battery didn't seem to like the cold a while back, and a couple of times it was nearly dead in the morning (clock reset, etc, but able to start). Not sure where to start on this - stick in a new battery? Swap over HT leads? Check the coil pack? Check the injector? Check the fuel pump? All of the above!?!?

4. Oh, and finally, the power steering is occasionally deciding to do nothing, usually at same time as dodgy power from point 3. Engine off/on sorts this immediately...

It feels to me like there is something wrong with the electrics, as all of these problems could have electrical basis, and they all came along at the same time give or take a few weeks. Is this something that someone has experienced? Are the looms prone to failure in some way? I'm used to old minis, so fix it with a wrench and hammer, so thought I'd ask around in case these were common known issues

Cheers for any help!

You probably answered your own question

Battery didn't like the cold. Dead in the morning

More than likely the battery needs replacing - modern
canbus cars won't work properly without a decent
battery. When it's swopped search for Phonic Wheel
reset too.

Get a good quality battery - its well worth the extra 20 quid.

The power steering is electric and works the battery hard when the generator is making minimal power. Add the lights, heater fan (when it got a working motor) and rear window heater; all while you are stuck in traffic and that little box of chemicals can soon get pretty tired.

Jesus, completely forgot I posted in here... typical!!

Firstly, replaced the fan - though bought a 2nd hand one, it was too big, so had to swap motor over, which wasn't easy as different mountings, etc, etc, etc. 2hrs hacking away later I've got a slightly noisy fan that is keeping it a little cooler, but not brilliantly. Assume water pump has gone/lost a lot of efficiency.

Will get the battery changed, went to buy one from Costco, they'd stopped selling them! lol Oh well, will pay full whack somewhere

Did take it to the garage (mrs made me!) - as expected they didn't have a clue as to what's going on. They fixed the airbag light, but wouldn't even speculate what other issue is from - and agreed with me tearing it apart would be an uneconomical plan.

Steering has since been totally fine...

As I'm fairly sure that the water pump is shot, I am going to grab a new one of those and replace it - tough job?

Never seem to have 2 bloody minutes to do anything at the moment, so if anyone does reply in here, I'm sorry if I don't get back to you, I can just be a bit unorganised/forgetful at times - but brain will no doubt click in again and I'll come thank!!!

(lol, rule 1 in getting a good response, make the responsee feel valued....!)
