They can take a fair amount of abuse. Get an extension on your ratchet and slowly turn it.
Shocking it off is more likely to damage the sump.

Punto sumps can be a bit iffy! Hope it hasnt been Loctite'd in to seal a leak!
Use the correct tool, you are more likely to get it to undo by striking the end of the spanner / socket extension with a sharp tap with a soft faced mallet. Trying the gradual approach is more likely to cause damage IMO.

lol so ive got 2 bits of advice here, one saying gradual is better, one saying gradual is more likely to damage it... i hope it hasnt been Loctite'd in!!

Lol no change there then eh! I havent damaged a sump yet, lucky I guess.
One thing.... try it when the sump is cold... if that fails try it when its hot.
I avoid extension bars because it is harder to understand the leverage being applied in foot pounds.
