Hi
I have just changed the timing belt on a '95 Punto 55 (1100cc) and now it won't start. The belt went on OK (marks lined up on crank, cam and belt), there's compression, spark and fuel. I've run out of ideas - does anyone else have any, please.
:bang:

Did you make sure the 'pip' on the crankshaft sproket is in the hole in the trigger wheel? This is a very common mistake but you only do it once!! The trigger wheel can go in 3 different places but the engine will only start if it is in the correct place as this is what tells the ecu where TDC is.

Rich.

forget the mill light it wont come on if you mix up the pulley position

make sure the pin is in the hole

I found it tricky to get a good head on view of the two timing marks and can see how easy it could be to get it one tooth out and for it not to start.

You'd be surprised how far out the camshaft can be before it won't run. I had one where the owner had been driving it for over a year despite it being 2 teeth out!

It's putting the bottom pulley on wrong that causes most issues- leaving the ignition timing 120 degrees out either way.
