Hi all,

I have a slight issue with my Fiat Punto Evo GP 2012, now driven by mygirlfriend. Every morning when she gets into the car, the inside of thewindscreen and rear window is soaking wet. She has to either wipe the window vigorouslyor put the heater on for some considerable time until the window dries out, however, often the car can be left for only a few hours and the problem isstill the same.

Up until August this year, the car was stored in a garage every night untilwe moved home, and therefore never had the issue.

Does anyone have any advice on what the issue might be and how tosolve/reduce it?

Thanks,

That much condensation means the inside of the car is very wet. Water is getting in!

Most likely culprit is the scuttle plenum. Sounds fancy, but this is the area below the windscreen. It fills with dead leaves, which block the drain tubes. The whole are fills with rainwater and then spills into the car via the heater intake. So first job is to lift the bonnet and check that area. Make sure it is drained, clean out the two drain tubes.

Hopefully that is it and it will then dry out. (May take a while this time of year.)

If that is not the issue, you will need to find where the water is getting in.

Check coolant level to ensure it is not that leaking from the heater matrix.

With bad weather and short trips, moisture can reside in car even with no leaks.

Mine was 4 days in my garage, and this morning a lot of condensation.

Leaving car at sun with 2cm windows open help a lot.
When driving and with hot engine, put on max hot, 2-3 fan position (manual control) and A/C (it help to dehydrate air).

And when you so hot, open a window :) With a long trip, all will be more dry (all carpet, seat and to on can contain a lot of water)

I have stopped this to barely noticeable levels now, and stopped the heavy condensation that I get in the passenger windows also which was also irritating me to hell.

I removed both of the light clusters, cleaned all behind and made sure it was bone-dry (what I did notice is that the cable coming from the frame was soaking wet so I dried that too), as well as taking the light clusters and putting them in the oven on LOW heat for about an hour to dry them out completely. I then got a new sponge and put it in the square hole which the cable comes from and then placed back the rear clusters. (see images) I have been driving around for a week now and the windows barely steam up and the light clusters do have a very small amount but only if I go right up to it (which i suspect was me not drying them out enough more than anything)

Well done.
Little blue sponge may cause the cable to chafe on the edge of the hole.
When you're sure its fixed, might be an idea to make a cut in the sponge to put the cable through its centre, so it both seals and protects from damage.

Yeah good thought, I will keep it on a little while more to see and try get a more permanent alternative.

Hi

I am currently have the same problem as mentioned by the orginal poster, even when i have my heater on it take a good 5 minutes for the condensation to disappear. I have the problem with the front and back windscreen. I never had the problem with the car i owned previously :)

Too much moisture inside car. You need to find the leak. Easier said than done.

I've found the same with mine the last few days,
I suspect it's a combination of bringing damp into the car,
wet coats + Shoes ( weather),

and Dirt / dust on the screen,
My screen seems to attract dirt+ Dust like no other..:(

my previous MK2 was a DRY car, but in weather when I got soaked in a coat..then sat inside for an hour or so,,it would be "steamy windows" for a week..,

The condensation in my GP 1.3 multijet 90bhp was trouble with the aircon drain pipe from the aircon unit to the floor pan drain hole had come off at the air con end.
Hence the water absorbed by the aircon unit drained back into the drivers footwell and the the back of the dash and made the windscreen condense again when the car stood overnight!
I solved it by taking off the Lower side panel by your left leg, this also has the foot rest by the clutch pedal on it, released by a screw, then pops out, top and bottom lugs, like the drivers side one when you change the pollen filter,
This shows the aircon drain pipe to the floor pan drain hose. It is held in place by pushing the hose onto the pipe and then there is a little rubber catch on the pipe that fits over another lug on the aircon unit pipe length. We also used a cable tie on it for added grip.
Problem solved, cabin now dry and windscreen does not have condensation
Hope this helps

Hi and welcome to the forum, thanks for getting involved and offering advice but this thread is now 6 years old, it’s unlikely to help those who asked for help as more than likely they have all bought a Mercedes on a PCP deal.

If you need help or advice yourself then start a new thread but normally we say not to revive or post on very old threads unless you’re asking about a similar problem yourself
