Hi!

Has anyone serviced their own Panda 100hp?
How difficult is it to replace:

oil filter
pollen filter
spark plugs
oil / sump bung

Or is it better to pay the garage to do it?

Id be comfortable doing it on my old VW golf, but havent serviced a more modern car like the 100hp yet.

Thanks,

Pretty straightforward IMO.
Can't remember wether I had to jack up the front to get to the oilfilter, but it wasn't hard. Sumpplug is a 12mm Allen/Hex (imbus).
On a LHD car the pollenfilter is easy too.
Take of the airfilter to get to the coils. remove them carefully and use an extension and socket with rubber "grip" to get the plugs out and in. 25Nm and they are ok.

Agreed- straightforward, and you'll do it properly.

Strap wrench for the oil filter, there's not enough room to get a chain round it. Jack the car up if you have a nose and can't see anything 20cm close up.

Welcome Rockrabbit. Does the car have garage service history at the moment? I don't service my own vehicles because I tend to buy FSH and what to retain that. On the other hand I tend to run cars into the ground rather than sell them so it's rarely useful having the FSH when selling on. What puts me off servicing my own vehicles is being able to catch problems early properly eg would I recognise bearings on the way out. you also need a fair bit of equipment to get strted, axle stands and trolley jack eg.

Hi, I service my 100 HP, its very easy to service. Just need axel stands jack etc. the plugs are easy to get to, same with sump plug.

Hi marc,

All the stuff you want to do is quite easy, even for a beginner. If you're not confident then my best advice would be to do some jobs with a mate that can give you a hand. Very soon you will be more confident and as you understand the car better you'll know if things are 'on there way out' better than a quick visit to a garage once a year. :)

Good luck with that and keep posted on your service

Thanks for the response!

Great insights indeed.

I took the route of getting the car serviced professionally. I also had to do the cambelt. It was at 130000 km so perhaps even a bit overdue.

They replaced the waterpump and cambelt tensioner, so a bit more work required.

Thanks again! :)

Its running beautifully BTW. It was idling a bit irregularly before the service,l but purring nice and consistent now. (y)

Best to have got those jobs done by the garage. I'm not very mechanically minded but on different vehicles I've changed components eg pads thermostat and under rad cross member on a camper van. Its very satisfying having the engagement with the vehicle.
