Hi guys,

Just thought I’d share my latest MJ fault.

I’ve an 06 Panda multijet with a vin number from before the recall – recall thread here

https://www.fiatforum.com/panda/106903-multijet-recall.html

Recall bulletin here
http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosa/apps/re...9CA9B557C4802572BA003FC3C1&freeText=Blank&tx=

So my late registered car built June 2005 didn’t get the recall as the pipe is OK?

Well I’ve had a smell of leaking diesel from my engine bay and guess what.

The spira wrap has chaffed through and now my pipe has chaffed too (pics below)

So I urge you to check your Panda MJ too.

The odd thing is the smell has gone today so maybe it was a diesel leak from another road under that got onto my car :S

I’ve ordered a new pipe, and FIAT with their usual wisdom made the pipe into an assembly along with another fuel line and the coolant return to header tank hose.

Dealer only part so I took the opportunity to double check I’m not due a recall – sadly not.

Price - £130 for just the part!! Grrr

Sorry tale, and not good for Fiat research or testing before production.
Would have thought that a diy repair is preferable to parting with a large amount of cash for a short bit of piping.

 Given that this was a part that Fiat had a recall for some cars, surely it would be worth a try to contact Fiat and highlight that this part has failed on your car and see if they will include your car in the recall?

Yes Wee Smurf the parts desk told me to contact Jeep when I picked up my part and mentioned the situation.

they gonna call me back tomorrow when their system is back up

the new pipe assy is not splitable so i'll have to fit the lot. It's also got what seems to be much tuffer protection.

The leak off pipe is pre formed / shaped plastic hose with 3 quick fit connectors, I don't think there is a DIY solution or I'd have taken it.

The new pape assembley is a not splitable and is probabley designed for ease and cost of manufacturing the car.

I don't think FIAT will be alone in this approach.

I'll take some pics before I fit it.

Some on here are probably old enough to remember the days when, if your car split a hose, you could go to the nearest garage and they would cut you a bit to the right length.
There was space to work under the bonnet then - not like the tight-packed engine bays of today.

Progress is a two-edged sword!

Belated reply - sorry here are the pics of the pipe assy.

No sign of any spira wrap

Was not convinced the leak was from the leakoff.

Jeep didn't entertain a refund or partial refund, nor would they engage in conversation about this assembly being an in appropriate service level, or any appropriate service level on any part for that matter.

The guy sounded like he was reading from a script as there was a big delay after everything I said.. Including Hello

After the phone call I decided to get my money back. My boss had reminded me that there may be a way to cut out the bad section and replace it if need be.

Found my leak - will start another thread.
