As per title, I had the cambelt, tensioner and water pump changed less than a year ago (15k miles) by a Fiat specialist. The original pump had been weeping.

The replacement is leaking now after 1 year although a genuine Fiat one was used.

The garage will put the pump through warranty but I wonder if anyone else has had this problem.

I guess I'd expect to pay for the labour again though or is it worth asking for a discount?

Cheers.

No, I changed my own Water pump when i did my cambelt, cant say I had an issue with it. I would say that the part and labour should be covered by the warrenty

I had this early on in my ownership of my Panda. Water pump leaked and was replaced at service and same thing again for the next service. Replaced under warranty. I think I got dodgy batch as it's been fine for a number of years now.

Mine leaked after I changed the cambelt and water pump. But it was my fault, didn't use enough gasket compound. There is no gasket or o-ring so you need enough gasket compound to make a seal, but not so much that it gets inside the impeller assembly.
Don't know if your Fiat specialist used genuine Fiat parts. I found they weren't any more expensive than "OEM" quality parts from ECP, even after applying one of those infuriating voucher codes.

I'll find out what make the old pump is on Friday but I have no reason to doubt them.

What sealant do you guys use?

I read RTV can take a while to dry and Permatex Right Stuff is better as it dries in a minute.

Hi,

I had my cambelt and water pump replaced in May (I think) 2015 and I immediately noticed it weeping beneath the car. I had the work done by Stoneacre who gave a full 12 month warranty on the parts/labour, so I whisked it straight off back to them.

They found the sealant was 'dodgy' and hadn't hardened properly causing the coolant to leak. They did the job but wanted to keep the car over night to ensure it did set properly. The lady on reception did state they had to buy a new tube of gasket/silicone as the one they originally used appeared to be a dodgy batch.

Matt.

Interesting, from what you guys say I should not pay for labour then.

To be honest, the coolant level has slowly been dropping since the change but I ignored it and kept topping up the expansion tank every now and then.

Also, can the cambelt be reused, I was told by a friend that they stretch and a new one shall always be used.

I think that if it's 1 year later then you will probably have to pay labour, maybe with a good-will discount.

For the price of a new belt there's no sense in ever refitting a used belt unless it's only been on for a very short time. There's even more reason to change it if hot antifreeze has been dripping on it for a year.

I'll get the belt canged for sure if antifreeze has been dripping on it.

Regarding RTV, how long does it need to be left to dry before refilling the system?

I know some people leave it overnight but the garage hasn't sugested this and I need the car.
